1-2- should close this place down!!!
Friday, May 23
The kids ate bagels and DH and I just coffee in the WL lounge. They also had cold cereal, fruit, muffins and pastry and juices. I don't mean to keep being a complainer, but again the WL concierge did not match up to AKL (who had hot cereal, better fruit with granola, and yogurts...)
Today was the big day for the little boy as we went to MGM for Star Wars weekend. He had a blast and even got picked for the Jedi Training Academy (fought Darth Vader!!!). The park attendance was light, but this would change dramatically tomorrow!! We got hungry and decided on Brown Derby...
5/23, Lunch - Brown Derby
We had a 12pm PS. The place filled up rather quickly. We have eaten here several times and always get the cobb salad, mine w/o blue cheese his w/o tomato, both with chicken. As usual it was fantastic. Finely chopped ice cold refreshing salad. The kids had a tossed salad (not by choice) and DS had mac and cheese, DD chicken soup. Also for an appetizer (we hadn't eaten yet today...
) DH had the little neck clams in casino broth with applewood smoked bacon and lemon thyme and I had the coconut shrimp with gingered beets, mizuna-mandarin orange salad and minted citrus soy dipping sauce. We both agreed that mine was better. The coconut crust was AMAZING and the citrus flavor of the beets and sauce was a nice compliment. Our server was friendly and playful with the kids.
Overall rating: 8 1/2, always a great lunch. The best food IMO in MGM.
Went back to the lodge and took a swim. The kids met a set of twins also from CT and asked to set a play date the following day!!! We told the parents we'd probably be around the pool again same time tomorrow...Decided to have dinner in the Concierge Lounge since we had such a big lunch.
5/23, Dinner, WL Concierge
The offering this evening were my favorite of the trip. We ate a beef chili that was more a stew-style, with large chunks of tender beef in a spicy tomato broth. It was excellent and DH and I had several bowls of it (they only give you bread plates and small bowls, even in the evening so you have to go up to the buffet quite often if you're hungry). There was also Manhattan Clam chower, but I didn't have any. The kids gorged on PBJ's and cheddar cheese...
Rating for this evening on food: 8 (but would give a 6 for atmosphere)
We decided to take a drive to BoardWalk and hang out. We walked to Beach Club, played in the arcade and went to Beaches for dessert...
5/23, Dessert, Beaches and Cream
There were several oderings of the famous kitchen sink while we were there. They dim the lights and make a big announcement. The thing is HUGE. The kids press us to get one, but I don't think I want all those flavors swirling around together. So DH and I ordered a No Way Jose. If you like peanut butter and chocolate, than this is for you. They do not skimp on the sauces and the ice cream was good quality. They are big portions though, I couldn't finish mine. DD and DS had root beer floats taller than their heads. They happily sat on their knees and drank/ate them nearly gone. (can you say "sugar rush"?). Service was fine. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend it. The place is adorable with pastel colors and whimsical ice cream cones decorating the booths and walls. An old-style ice cream shop.
Overall rating: 8 1/2 for ice cream place.
We called it a day...tomorrow Animal Kingdom (my favorite).
Next up for review....Tusker House and 'Ohana.
