We arrived Friday from our Spring Break trip at WDW. Thirteen of us stayed at the Pop Century Resort. I had read fairly mixed reviews about this resort here and in other forums, but had an open mind as to what our experience would be like.

Our group had a total of five rooms, four rooms connecting, and one room seperated from our group. All of our rooms were ground floor. All of our special requests were granted. We requested connecting rooms, one handicap room (we got two), non-smoking and informed them that in two of the rooms that would be connecting we had asthmatics. We also got our building request, which was the 50s. Two of our rooms were pool side, two of our rooms were on the backside (very quiet) and one room was lake side with a perfect view of the fireworks from Epcot.

*I* personally did not like the themeing of the resort, I also did not like their kid area in the main building where you checked in. While the gift shop was nice and roomy, it was right next to the food court which was often a distraction to the smaller children in our group. The food court in my opinion was laid our poorly, and the food was HORRIBLE. The Pizza was not too bad, but everything else we ate, from breakfast to salads was nastee. One day for lunch I ordered a quick bite or chili cheese fries and it took everything in me to hold them down. It was beyond gross. No one in our group was impressed with the food court, except my children who at Pizza there three times.

Our rooms were very nice. Clean and roomy. I liked the furnishings in the rooms and I also liked the fact that the handicap rooms came with little fridges. Iron and iron board were provided and if we needed anything from housekeeping they brought it right away. I tipped the cleaning person everyday, but not one time did they do anything cute or special with our children's toys, towels, etc in the room. This was disappointing as we had four children between our two rooms. It was also very obvious that we had children in our group and we had several Disney themed souveniers in our rooms. My children however didn't know any different and decorated our window sills themselves during our afternoon breaks. (they had seen other rooms with decorated windows)

Transportation. Well everything I read here about transportation being slow with long waits was true. I was really disappointed at how long it took to get from place to place. One night we had to wait for three busses (a total of an hour) to get to DTD. In the morning your wait time for a bus could vary depending on the park you went too. Sometimes you could easily get on a bus, and then sometimes you would have to wait as long as 20 minutes for one. Going back to the resort from Magic Kingdom was a nightmare. Pop has the farthest bus drop pickup. In fact it was aggravating to me that three sections were for drop off and pick up of non resort guests before the Pops Pickup. Not cool at all. On Friday, April 1st, we waited 25 minutes to be picked up for a POP bus back to Magic Kingdom, while the All Star Busses came every 10 minutes to pick up guests. This was not the first time this had happened either for us. At Animal Kingdom we waited 20 minutes for a bust to take us back to Magic Kingdom the night before. Also we had a mixture of bus drivers -- one man was an a$$ and thought he was comedian, we had one woman driver who treated the handicap people like they were a waste of breathe, and then others drove like it was the wizarding bus on Harry Potter 3.

Pools. Some days pools were crowded, but they were nice and warm. I really did like the pools there and the Goofy water play area for the kids.

Food and bus service was the biggest issues for me and even though we had nice clean rooms we would not stay there again. The food I could look over but the bus service I could not. The resort is nice but just not our style either. If we are going to stay in a value resort we would definitely go with an All Stars over the Pop.

I have to say that while our experience at Pop was not as negative as yours our two areas of concern were the same as yours: food and buses. We also had some pretty long waits and didn't think the food court was quite as good as Movies. But not to the point I thought I would be sick or anything (funny, we thought the pizza was gross but loved the chili/cheese fries!) . Also, you were there during spring break so crowded buses would be expected. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but the mousekeepers are not the ones that usually decorate the window sills, the guests do. So your kids were just doing what other people's kids were, displaying their park treasures in the window. Sometimes the mousekeepers will take the toys off the window sills and have them doing funny things like watching tv from the bed. They will also sometimes make towel animals. But this is totally random and during a busy time they probably just don't have the time. I would take a super clean room over a towel animal any day. I am sorry your experience wasn't better but it sounds like you still had a good time. Like I said, we had a few negatives too but will stay there again in December so I think for us the positive far outweighed the negatives.

Other times we have stayed on property and other times my sister has stayed on property they have done this for our children.

Mousekeeping does not get paid to do towel creatures. It really depends on who gets your room. It's a bonus some Mousekeepers do; most do not. It's never a guarantee and should not really be expected.

While we were at the ASMo in 2003 We came home to our windows decorated every night and special arrangement(s) on our childern's beds but no towel animals. We didn't expect anything but a clean room room but was pleasantly suprised each night.

Wow, I guess I always assumed that it was the kids since the windows I have seen look like a kid just stacked a bunch of stuff in there! We have had mousekeepers leave us towel animals but I would never expect this because it looks like a time consuming process.

Thanks for your review. We'll be staying at Pop for the first time this June and I'm looking forward to seeing what its like!

Its kinda funny because most people say the buses at Pop are great and think the rooms are small, which is just the opposite of your review. Not being critical of what you wrote, I just thought it was interesting.

Just a thought, but maybe they were so busy with Spring Break that they just didn't have time to do the towel animals. Wonder if other people got them that week? Thanks for your honest review.

Sorry you had the numerous problems w/ POP.

When my DH and I stayed at POR, our mousekeeper posed my newly purchased Rizzo Rat on a folded towel in the window sill. We about cracked up when we came back to the room that day. Another day, we had a little towel creation holding our toothbrushes above the sinks.

I agree that it just depends on if the mousekeepers have time (or the talent) to leave towel animals/creations. I also don't think this should be expected, but it is nice when it happens. It would definitely not make my trip any less special.

Re: the towel animals

I have stayed at CBR 2x, POR 2X, Sports 2x, Music 1x and Movies 1x I have NEVER gotten a mousekeeping towel critter. Yes, it would be a nice touch, but I look at it as a pleasant surpirse, not something to be planned on.

Just so you know. The fact is that no matter what resort you stay at, it is all the same bus service. The same vehicles, the same drivers, the same everything. While some resorts may seem to have better service then others, the fact is that every resort has good and bad times for buses. I am sure there was someone staying at the all-stars during your stay that noticed more pop buses than all-stars at some point. The fact is the grass may appear greener on the other side, but more often than not you only need to clean you glasses.

So VERY true...

I am headed to POP tomorrow with DD. The way I look at it is : I wasn't even supposed to be going and I am thrilled I got a room using AAA to stay on site! I am really excited! After all we're going to the best place in the WORLD IMO!!! :cool1:

What was wrong with the bus service? We're staying at POP in October and we're not renting a car, so I'm curious. What was wrong with it? Did it not come on time, too crowded, took too long? Thanks for info.

At the CBR the maids always decorated our windows with towel bunnies and towel fairies. Very cute but not expected.

Please keep in mind that waiting 20 minutes for a bus at a park or at the resort is not unusual: it's expected, as every bus stop sign indicates.

However, waiting almost an hour for a DTD bus is bizarre and inefficient.

We stayed at POP from 3/19-3/25 and have to say that we had no problems with the busses whatsoever. There were lines for the busses, but we had 3 busses come to pick up from POP to the MK in 15 mins because of the lines.

Rooms were "tight", we had 2 adults and 2 kids (5 & 3), but we did get animals left for the kids. That was a very nice touch.

Having read all the postings here about POP and the transportation, I was a little wary. I saw nothing that would sustantiate many of those claims.

Food at POP, I only ate the breakfasts and a Cheeseburger. I thought they were very good. Choice of food was also good.

I think that if you go into something witha predetermined notion of how it should be, you will always be disappointed. Keep an open mind, and also remember that the crowds during Spring Break, may have been larger than normal.

I loved POP and will be back !!

Me too! I have stayed at CBR 2x, ASMo 3x, ASSp 2x, CSR 2x, WL 2x and POFQ 1x and never ever have gotten any towel animals. BUT...try the Disney Cruise, you are guaranteed you will get them! My understanding is that they get trained for it and then all the cabins get the towel animals.

SIDE LINE: BTW.. If anyone have never met Cinderella even for 100 times you've been to Disney...try the DCL..you will meet/greet Cinderella there!

However, the original poster said she had to wait an hour and three busses. I believe someone in the party was in a wheelchair, and it may be necessary to wait awhile for a bus then. Each bus can only hold one or two wheelchairs.

Wow, it's so interesting to read others' views, especially when there at the same time!

We stayed at POP March 29 thru April 2 and loved it!

~ Requested and received room (4th) floor in preferred building (60's) directly overlooking the big (Hippy Dippy) pool.

~ Great Mousekeeper! We DID tip, but forgot the first day and still came home to two towel animals. She also decorated the window every night.

~ Great busses! NEVER waited more than 5 minutes going anywhere, including Downtown Disney.

~ The food court was fine, but only ate breakfast there the day we left (had breakfast / cereal in room, and ate all other meals, lunch and dinner, in parks.)

~ LOVE the theming ~ so sweet, innocent, fun, soo DISNEY!
We DO stay in luxury resorts on other types of vacations but on disney trips, we want disney magic. (Where ELSE will you find giant, colorful icons?!! :) ) POP is definitely a step (or two!) up from All Stars.

I truly can't name one thing wrong with our stay. We were very blessed, had a blast and can't wait to return!

:)
