I wish I knew why Citrico's never seems busy. Never more than 1/2 full every previous time we ate there (usually virtually empty), closed on Mon. and Tuesday. My own theory is that's it a "tweener"--not as elegant as it's neighbor V&A, and not as family-oriented (with a view) as Narcoosee's down on the water. So most folks go to the one or the other and by-pass Citrico's completely. Too bad--it's a fine restaurant and among the more "adult friendly" spots in WDW. Pleasant decor and the open kitchen adds to the ambiance. And the prices are in-line with other WDW spots also--for example, the salmon at AP is $28.00, at Flying Fish it's $24.00 and at Citrico's it was $25.00. The Filet at AP is $30.00, at FF it's $31.00 and Citrico's is $32.00. So not terribly different price -wise.
Anyhow-off the soap-box and on to the meal. Our PS were for 6:10 and when we arrived at 6:05 sharp, we were seated immediately. That wasn't difficult because at that time, there was but one other table occupied in the place. I'm pleased to report that by the time we left, Citrico's was just about 1/2 full--a virtual crowd given our past experience.
Our server appeared promptly and was efficient and courteous thru-out the meal. For drinks, Mrs. U decided on the excellent wine pairings offered at Citrico's--$25.00 for 3 wines paired to the various courses. As usual, Uncleromulus was faced with a less-than-spectacular beer list (but at least there WAS a printed list, unlike many other WDW restaurants) and the most adventurous thing I could find was Fischer's LaBelle.
Appetizers were fantastic--Mrs U and I split the Jumbo Lump Crabcake, w/ Dijon Aioli and Spicy Hatissa. Fried hard, the crabcake was pretty good sized and they split it for us in the kitchen before it came to the table. While it wouldn't make me forget the fine Md. crabcakes, this one came as close as any we've had at WDW. No Old Bay or anything, but tasty and very identifiable lump crabmeat.
We next split the Warm Goat Cheese Salad as our second appetizer, and with the marinated tomatoes it came with, an excellent choice.
For entree's, I had that Honey and paprika Pork Loin. Excellent piece of meat, almost fork tender and with the definite taste of both the Honey and the paprika. YUM!! Mrs. U was on the lookout for that excellent Cod filet she had last time at Citrico's, but it's now off the menu. So she decided on the Roasted halibut w/ Tomato and Zucchini tart. Another good choice.
Citrico's has a seperate dessert menu and from that Mrs. U had the Tropical Fruit Creme Brulee, while I got Lemon Cheese cake w/ fresh berries. Both were somewhat "light" desserts and a perfect finish to our meal. Should note that during dessert Mrs. U remarked to our server that the dessert wine she had was quite good. He told her he had another dessert wine that was his personal favorite, whereupon he went, got that bottle, and poured her a second dessert wine! Nice touch--and she actually liked the second one even better than the first. It was La Familglia
Mondavia Muscato Bianco--in case anyone is interested.
So-another fine meal at Citrico's. Do go, and help Uncleromulus keep Citrico's off the WDW restaurant "endangered species" list.
Oh--one more thing--we had WARM sourdough bread that nite!!
