I had eaten at Cape May on a previous trip. This was at the Character Breakfast Buffet which my wife and I attended with our three children. Attending this breakfast was a no-brainer since we were staying at the Beach Club. We all enjoyed our meal immensely and the children were enchanted with the characters which were, if I'm not mistaken, Chip 'n' Dale.
This visit was for the Clambake Buffet and I was traveling as a single. I arrived in time but I had to wait nearly a half an hour for a table. When I was seated, I found the table in a good location but that was the only thing good about my dinner.
The fish of the day was tilapia which I like but that was about it. I am not a shellfish lover so all the mussels and clams were wasted on me. There are so many things that one can do with fish but Cape May didn’t seem to have a clue. I was surprised that they had only one type of fish. Swordfish kabobs would have been wonderful as would have been cod or salmon fixed in an imaginative way.
The non-seafood portion of the buffet included ribs which I enjoy. The corn on the cob was good.
Overall, I believe I made a mistake coming to Cape May. I have been to many buffets and some were great and some were ordinary. Unfortunately, this buffet was the latter. Even though I was on the dining plan, I felt that it was a waste of money. I will not come again.
I give the Cape May Clambake Buffet one star.
