I had eaten at Cape May on a previous trip. This was at the Character Breakfast Buffet which my wife and I attended with our three children. Attending this breakfast was a no-brainer since we were staying at the Beach Club. We all enjoyed our meal immensely and the children were enchanted with the characters which were, if I'm not mistaken, Chip 'n' Dale.

This visit was for the Clambake Buffet and I was traveling as a single. I arrived in time but I had to wait nearly a half an hour for a table. When I was seated, I found the table in a good location but that was the only thing good about my dinner.

The fish of the day was tilapia which I like but that was about it. I am not a shellfish lover so all the mussels and clams were wasted on me. There are so many things that one can do with fish but Cape May didn’t seem to have a clue. I was surprised that they had only one type of fish. Swordfish kabobs would have been wonderful as would have been cod or salmon fixed in an imaginative way.

The non-seafood portion of the buffet included ribs which I enjoy. The corn on the cob was good.

Overall, I believe I made a mistake coming to Cape May. I have been to many buffets and some were great and some were ordinary. Unfortunately, this buffet was the latter. Even though I was on the dining plan, I felt that it was a waste of money. I will not come again.

I give the Cape May Clambake Buffet one star.

Thanks for the review. We have been considering Cape May for our upcoming October trip but have not been crazy about the items on the buffet. Your review helps me.

I go to Cape May every trip....but then I go for the mussels:love: The other food is just icing on the cake, so to speak. The last time I went I did try a bite of everything on the nonseafood side and found it all to be very good. Not too impressed with the desserts anymore---they use to take up one of the sides---and there was more variety.

We loved it in Feb and we just went back last weekend and found it to be just ok....we will still go back tho, maybe we hit it on an off night.

Thanks for the reviews. Based on the pictures, we may have to try this place. My kids won't eat seafood, but they'll definitely eat what on the second plate.

We always enjoyed Cape May, in fact we are going again in May. Then again we eat any kind of seafood so we are happy with just that portion of the buffet. Although I must say I do like the cornbread there.

We loved it when we went in August, but then we are crazy clam eaters! I think people expect 'seafood' when it's really a 'clambake'. We don't get fresh steamed clams up here in Ontario so we go nuts! For us, it's a must do!
