Returning Disney merchandise...same store only???

At WDW now (yay!) but unable to get a "hard and fast" answer from front desk. Let me pose this question to my disboard friends...
I bought an item at the Contemporary gift shop a few days ago. Looking at it today it seems too small for the intended recipient. With receipt in hand, do I have to return it to the Contemporary gift shop or can I return it to a Downtown Disney Store? Thanks in advance for your information!

I have in the past returned something bought in one resort to another resort, or possibly returned it in a park (not sure which). So I can't speak for DTD, but I have done something similar without problem.

You may return any WDW merchandise to any WDW merchandise location.

In the past we have returned items at other stores at WDW and I think it helps if that store is also selling the same item, although that shouldn't be a problem.

When we were there last a toy that my DD purchased at DHS broke within hours of purchase. I brought it down to the resort gift shop and they had someone go and exchange it for me as we had no plans to return to the park

We have often returned items to a different location - for instance, bought suntan lotion at a kiosk in Epcot, only to find the lid broken, and returned it to the gift shop at our resort.

If the shop you are returning to does not sell the item, they may have to call to get the SKU, taking a bit of time, but we've never had any problems.

In the past I have returned something purchased at the park to a place at Downtown Disney

As long as you bought something in a Disney owned shop, you can return to any other Disney owned shop. I've done it a few times.

I did an even exchange on our last trip...a friend left us mickey and minnie salt and pepper shakers in our room for our wedding and minnie's nose was broken...I brought it back...explained it was a gift that I didn't have a receipt and they just exchanged it...no worries. Happens all the time.

I bought a pair of pjs for my DD in the Studios. I just checked the shirt tag, and saw 'Medium" which is what I needed. However, once we got back to the hotel, we saw that the shirt was indeed medium, but the pants were small. I went to the gift shop at the All Star Movies, where we were staying, explained to them, and they had a new set sent to me at the hotel the next day. Great customer service!!!!!
