Tuesday (4/20) we headed over to the Studios to ride RnR and ToT before our lunch PS at 11:30 at the Brown Derby. It was again EMH day, and we weren't as prompt as usual at getting there. When we arrived, RnR already had a 55 minute wait posted, and FP return on ToT was for 11:45. We did grab a couple of FP for ToT, and got in the RnR line. Luckily the wait was more like half an hour, and grumpy DS finally realized he could talk to the teenagers in line in front of him. We had a wonderful ride as usual, and split up, with plans to meet at the Brown Derby at 11:30. We were able to grab another FP for RnR, then Don and I walked around a bit. We stopped at the Hat, and I got a few pins. Don got another Grumpy pin--he's always telling his students he's Grumpy and wears Grumpy clothing to prove his point. We headed over to Star Tours (25 minute wait posted) but it was winding slowly through the EWOK village (didn't even see that on our Christmas trip) and we got out of line when we thought it was too close to our PS.
We waited just for a few minutes at the Brown Derby and were seated in the main area. We planned to use two Kingdom Lunch Vouchers, one for DS15, and one to split for Don and myself. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, and the grouper. Our wait person Greg suggested we add on the grilled shrimp to each of our entrees. DS ordered littleneck clams casino (which he thought were too small--grumpy, grumpy) and the NY steak with the grilled shrimp. The plates arrived pre-split and garnished beautifully by the kitchen. Greg was very familiar with how to use the vouchers, and although he was slammed with a huge party of about 12, he tried to connect with us and make sure we enjoyed our meal. We were stuffed (that's why we share) and ordered the grapefruit cake and flourless chocolate cake to go!. We didn't get around to eating these until breakfast a day later, but they were wonderful. DS15 (then not-so-grumpy) loved the chocolate cake.
Then off to Tot and RnR with our desserts in hand (they held up well to the various forces of drops and g's.
Afterwards, there really wasn't a lot we wanted to do at the Studios--it just seemed too crowded, and we decided to go back to the Fort and relax for a bit.
It was so easy to walk from our site to the Meadows pool. We never had any trouble getting a lounger--one in shade for me, one in sun for DH, and DS found some other young men who liked to skate board, and two young ladies from NH who live about an hour from where we camp in the summertime. I think there were exchanges of screen names and cell numbers!
Then DH discovered one of the best things about the Meadows pool bar--it may have the cheapest beer in WDW! The people who work there said the company forgot to send them a memo to increase their prices, so they're charging lower fees! I don't know if that's true or not, but it went a long way to keep DH happy while I read my book!
We fixed some Hamburger Helper for DS who was hungry again (not us), and then DH and I went to MK with a plan to watch Wishes. We had seen Spectro at least twice over Christmas, so we weren't feeling like we had to do that. We went over to Frontierland and rode Pirates of the Caribbean, and Splash, and BTMRR with waits that didn't seem too long. DH didn't understand that I wanted to watch Wishes from somewhere near the Crystal Palace (Spectro was blocking the way), and we ended up on the long traverse through Fantasyland down by the teacups and over on the other side of the castle. We did however find a great spot to watch Wishes on a pathway sort of in front of the Plaza restaurant (not the Rose Garden). We had seen Wishes in October, but I really liked this one better.
DH tried to get a footlong hot dog from Caseys--well he did, but it fell out of the bun and onto the ground. He was, well, his turn to be Grumpy. He liked Wishes though.
We headed out with all the other thousands of people and experienced incredible gridlock on the ferry back to Ft Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. We were on the fourth ferry, supervising CM said he wanted Disney to get him another boat, all of his were in play. I asked about the TTC for faster service, but he said he wasn't sure if waiting for the ferry and then the bus would be any faster. Luckily the Yellow FW bus was right there at Pioneer Hall and we finally got back to the site at 11:00.
DS had been making more friends and discovered a young man from Massachusetts who was 16, driving a golf cart (All DS is waiting for is 16 and his permit), and was giving other people rides. He was NOT grumpy!
