Last time I was in WDW, I bought Mickey ears as a gift but the person had already, can I return without a receipt to a store in WDW?

I'll bet you can as long as you didn't have them personalized.

Good luck.

:)

We bought the wrong ones and didn't have a problem, but they were not personalized.

I had two different experiences while at WDW two weeks ago. My good experience: I bought three ponchos b/c there was a 90% chance of rain the next day. It ended up not raining until after we were already back to the hotel for the night. I had thrown away the receipt b/c I was so sure we would use them, but they gave me a merchandise credit. It did require a manager's approval.

My bad experience: I asked for an exchange at Mouse Gear for my Mickey camera strap. I bought it at Mouse Gear in July, but didn't have a receipt. It is completely falling apart (all the stitching is coming apart--the strap is unusable). Yes, I used it on my camera, but a camera strap shouldn't fall apart in less than three months, especially when I don't use it everyday. The cast member was very short with me (so much so that a different cast member apologized to me), and told me that it had been more than 30 days, so I couldn't return it. I live in Tennessee, so that wasn't really an option. I was lucky to be back less than 90 days out. I was so shocked by the way she treated me that I left, but I really wish I had spoken with a manager. I tried again at the Emporium on the last day of my trip, and the manager said, "Just take it back to Mouse Gear (the only place that carries them), they'll give you a new one." Unfortunately, we were leaving, and I didn't have time to go back to Epcot. So disappointed. I had been eyeing that strap for years.

Anyway, it may depend on who you get, but ask for a manager if you want to question the cast member's response!

Thanks for sharing your story. DH has been eyeing that strap for a while and we decided not to get it last trip b/c there were 2 hanging there and one looked as if it was already coming apart, lose threads and stitching missing, etc and he was concerned about the quality. I thought it might be a fluke, so I had considered getting one next month when we go to put in his stocking but I think we will have to pass on this one.

The people at the Magic Kingdom photo center in the Town Square Theater said that Disney is no longer going to carry camera straps and products like it. If this is true, I wonder if they have had a quality issue and are discontinuing them for that reason.

Disney has begun taking a hard line on returns. If you want cash back, you must have your receipt. They will not take returns after 30 days. If you do not have a receipt and the item is a standard stock item, they will usually give a store credit. They will not take back broken or abused items unless you have a receipt and the purchase is under 30 days. Even then, it is at the manager's discretion.

To a certain extent, we can thank ourselves for this policy change. I can't begin to count the number of threads I've read on this board of people wanting to return things they bought a year or more before. No other business would do this, but people expected it because it is Disney.

If the merchandise is shoddy and did not hold up, your best bet is to file a complaint with Disney.

OP, as long as you have your receipt, they are not personalized and it is under 30 days, you should be able to return the ears.

have had 2 great experiences:
1. bought a plastic pouch for DS in May, got home and noticed it came apart and the slider didn't work. Went to Mousegears last week and asked if we could get a new one (didn't have the receipt); she said absolutely. We didn't even go to the register, she did it right there.
2. DS got a light saber in Hollywood studios on Tuesday of last week. It stopped working, so we went back and they gladly exchanged it.

We were told by both CM's, as long as it's an even exchange (item for item), it's no big deal at all- no matter how long you've had it.

As usual, there are CMs who are not aware of policy changes. They should not have told you that. It is no longer the policy. I got the policy information direct from one of the new CM trainers. She is always up on the latest policy decisions. Unfortunately, Disney isn't that good at disseminating information. You got lucky. Don't expect it in the future.

When I was there last month, I bought something at DHS but then returned it to the resort gift store. I was told you can return it to any gift shop. They did say I needed my reciept.

So you can return it anywhere with a receipt, is what I took this to mean.

Don't know if it's different if you take it too the actual store you bought it from.

I realize this is really silly, but when I saw this thread I thought back to the thread a few months ago where the OP was sad that someone (her mother in law, maybe?) had bought an ear hat for her daughter when that was the thing she herself was looking forward to buying for her daughter once they were in the parks.

You wouldn't be that poster's mother in law returning the ones you bought, would you, OP? ;)

(I realize I'm being silly. Ahem. I return you to your previously un-silly thread.)

This is true. You can return items to any store on Disney property. It doesn't matter where you originally purchased the items.

3 weeks ago when we were there my DD (9) had bought some ears with her money. They were really tight behind her ears (her own ears). They had left marks on her skin within a few minutes, so she said she would go and ask at the resort shop where she bought them. She took the bag and ears and then came out and told me we needed to go back to the room as she had forgotten the receipt and they would not exchange them without the receipt. I guess it is no different to normal store policy.

That's interesting, because I'm pretty sure the policy hasn't changed.

If someone purchases an autograph pen and it stops working, they can bring it back and we'll take the damaged one and give them a new one.

Nope, not me, sorry

We bought one of those giant pens and the fist time a character used it ( it was Goofy of course) the thing fell apart. The character attendant gave us her ball point pen and told us to keep it and then told us to tkae it back and get a new pen. We did show our receipt and they gave a new one and gave them a hand ful of peices.
