I need some advice....

My husband received an iPad Mini from his work as a gift. He already has an iPad, and doesn't really want the Mini too. The package is sealed and not opened.

Can you suggest anywhere that would take the unopened iPad Mini and ideally give a cash refund without a receipt? I know electronics return policies are fairly strict at most retailers. If cash refunds are not possible, anywhere that might give store credit?

If Walmart sells them, they would give you a gift card for the full price.

I doubt any stores will give you a cash refund and it may be difficult getting a store credit as well.

I would just save the iPad for a future gift or try selling it on your own on craigslist, Facebook or eBay.

What you're asking is illegal

An Apple Store will possibly give you store credit in the form of a gift card. When I worked at one, we did it semi-regularly, even though it was technically not within policy.

Most places can scan an item and see if it was purchased there. I had two items exactly the same, one from Walmart one from target. Didn't want either but got them mixed up. Walmart was able to tell me which one came from them and which did not. Taking it somewhere you know it did not come from just to get a refund is fraud.

I think that most stores track them by the serial number, so they will be able to tell it was not purchased from them, and therefore they won't take the return. I suggest that it might be best to sell it on EBay or Craigslist or give it to someone as a gift, unless you can get your employer to give you the receipt for it.

I would say sell it on ebay or craigslist. If you received it from your dh's work, then returning it for $$ at a store is just wrong IMO

I don't know of any store which will give cash for a return without a receipt.

Try selling it yourself if you want cash.

Yup, not only the wrong thing to do, but it won't work anywhere you try!

Apple (and many other high-end electronics) have gotten smart and put the serial number on the outside box, as well as in/on the actual machine. When an iPad is sold by any retailer, the cashier has to scan the serial number as well.

So you can't return any ol ipad to any ol store. And thank goodness because return fraud is what makes return policies so crazy anyway! Stores have to get strict to deal with dishonest returns.

And if you must go store to store anyway, can you at least be honest? Say I got this as a gift, will you accept it? Doing so is honest and if you find a retailer willing to do so, great! But if you find yourself fibbing... then even you know its wrong.

As others have stated there is nothing wrong with selling the ipad on your own. I would suggest a post on Facebook. A "friend" may be apt to buy one from someone they know. You don't know who is in the market?

And too, I would try the apple store... but with an honest approach. Tell them you received it as a gift and see if they are willing to give a loyal apple consumer (you say you own an ipad) a store credit for the day you choose to upgrade!

Thats what happened when I returned an ipod once.

I try an apple store and tell them how you got it. You never know and it can't hurt to ask.
