Results of MB data mining

I'm not so worried about the MB big data mining going on, I'm just disappointed about the extra features that were dropped. I was in the test in October 2013 and I liked the cast members saying my name. I take it they don't do that anymore... And I always thought it was cool when ET at Univ said my name...so I think it'd be awesome to have some customization on the rides.
I am still awed that the photopass can use your bands for the ride pictures without scanning them...I understand the concept but still find it a little creepy/magical :laughing: I look forward to "seeing" it in person on our upcoming trip.
 

Phones have location devises, not to mention they track the phone number as you enter the stores and as you shop they follow you in the store. They also use face screenings to ID you and plain old cameras to track you.............if you have a credit card with a magnetic strip they scan it as you enter and do the same things. As you use a credit card to buy at different stores they are tracking your travels and what your buying where. I did a recent Refrigerator search on line and suddenly the ads on the computer screen was busy popping up the brands I looked at.

This is nothing new, it been around for a few years now.

I don't know if this is just a change to the way they are managing all of their data quite apart from MBs but: we used to get the occasional PIN offer by e-mail. They were frequently for value resorts and free dining. We never do DDP and we always stay in deluxe resorts. About the same time that they brought in MM+, we started getting PIN offers for stays at deluxe resorts more focused on discounts for times of year that we typically don't go and not focusing on free dining or DDP. Not that we've taking advantage of any - they're not usually for times of year that work for us but at least they are appealing in what they offer. I have actually looked more closely at these and even checked out whether or not the dates would be possible. Regardless of whether it's a concurrent marketing effort that actually examines my spending patterns and preferences or related to MM+ and MBs, I much prefer this to the random offers for things I will definitely never take advantage of.


EDIT: Just received a PIN code for a discount at deluxe resorts in December during times we normally go. We are planning to take advantage of this. Coincidence or luck of the draw? Maybe. But I suspect that their data mining is paying off for us.

Well your entitled to your opinion. I may not have the details all correct but as my duaghter who does security and store marketing information checks...says....parahrasing....if the American public knew all the data they can and sometimes do collect and sell there would be amother American Revolution.

Delete your browser's cookies and the targeted ad's go away. It's not your buying habits that target you on line, it's your search habits.
 
Actually, they can't collect off a mag stripe until you swipe it -- RFID is a different story...

I beleive they can read the strip with nothing more then a a
scanner by the doors and them follow it as you shop and buy.
 
I agree but this all leads to the amount and type of data they collect and sell.....it really points out Disney collecting park sales is not our problem.....it's nothing, please read earlier posts

You know, I could be wrong but I don't know if it every got hashed out here on TPAS. I know there was some discussion on the DL forum because of the comment from Tom Staggs that magic bands would not be coming to DLR. It could probably stand to have its own thread here.

You'll be fine. Planning for those parks is not nearly as involved. Of course, at first it will seem so odd not to be planning as much, but hopefully you can embrace it like we have!

I always wonder what I'm searching for, because I get the most random targeted ads, like for adult diapers. Also, I frequently get ads in Spanish. My search history must be really weird.
 
Here's a quick tutorial on the difference between mag stripe and RFID technologies.


and what difference does it make..........There is magnetic strip readers out there. The point is that the massive amounts of data collected other store and others is a lot more sensitive then which stuffed Disney toy you buy or meal you have.
