We were in DW first week of May and while at MGM one day I heard a plane overhead. I looked up and saw a Disney plane with mouse ears on it. Living here in southwestern Connecticut about 45 miles from NYC we frequently heard aircraft overhead. At all the parks and our hotel Dixie Landings we did not hear any planes.

Is Walt Disney World restricted air space - no aircraft at all except Disney planes???

Just curious to know.

Not sure where to post but posted on the Transportation Board.

I really doubt the airspace over Walt Disney World is restricted for commercial aviation.

Your situation 45 miles from NYC is very different. That is the most congested air space in the country. Planes circle that area throughout the day every day waiting for landing clearance.

Our Dec 2000 visit was the first time I had ever noticed hearing airplanes above -- and it happened twice. Both times, in the evening (dark), while standing in front of Shades of Green.

It actually suprised me at how low & loud it was - so I'm assuming they were commercial aircraft --based on distance between nose & tail lights. Hmmm, on second thought - maybe it was a UFO. LOL

We saw many planes fly over WDW in December. Jets were on our mind during our last stay as the ride down was scary... we even have the sound of a jet on video from our first night.... Ted made a joke that it was our broken plane headed back to NH.

There are also helicopter tours. Apparently there is a place in Orlando that will do WDW tours by helicopter and it videotapes the scenery so that you can keep the video as a souvenier.

We used to see small airplanes trailing messages and even smoke writing airplanes going over WDW during parades. They were advertizing different Orlando area attractions.
