We are off to Whitby for our wedding anniversary at the weeken. Any suggestions for some nice meals? Thanks

I have eaten here a few times and it's always been lovely :thumbsup2

Depends what type of food you are after. We always, always go to Trenchers when we are down there. I know it does beautiful salads and fish and chips. There is a website which may detail what else it sells. It isn't a cozy candlelight type of place though but it does do great food.:) A restaurant that always get a mention is The Magpie, people are always queuing outside. We went in once, had to wait ages then got sat with another couple on the same table, food was okay but Trenchers is way better.

My eldest son loves the chocolate coated fruit you can buy on the older side of Whitby too. Never tried it myself but handy for a snack. It is in one of the shops down one of the little roads that lead off the main road that goes over the bridge, at the bridge end of the road.

Hope you have a lovely time. It is my favourite seaside place.

Oh yes, I had forgotten about Trenchers :thumbsup2 Great food there:cloud9:

Thanks for your help! i know where Trenchers is, we'll try there I think!

You might beable to help with this too. Everyone tells us Goatham is worth a trip. What do you think ?

Sorry Verity have not been (think you mean Goathland). The next nearest place to Whitby we like is York but don't know what the distance is from Whitby as we have never travelled that way before.

Goathland is a lovely little village where they film Heartbeat. There isn't a great deal to do there, but there are some nice little shops and cafes.

We were there at Whitby a few weeks ago. We waited for the Magpie cafe for a good 45 mins. Nice enough food but definitely not worth that length of wait. Whitby is really nice though :)

Another vote for the White Horse and Griffin. We eat there every time we go to Whitby and it's never let us down, beautiful food and atmosphere, especially in the back room.

ive been there a lot as i used to live in middlesbrough and i always used to go every sunday. If you are wanting fisha and chips id definately recommend hadleys fish and chips as they do the best fish and chips. and goathland is really nice and is a really nice place to visit (we went there because my grandma loves heartbeat).

Yes I agree with all the places mentioned above, the magpie used to be our favourite when the queues weren't as big, last few times we've had a take away from there. There is a pub over the bridge, turn left, and it overlooks the river, don't know what it's called but my friend at work always goes there and they're fussy!! Also over the bridge is a lovely chocolate shop - you can buy broken chocolate in bags - kids ask for £1 worth - they love it!!

Goathland is very popular, the station is Hogsmeade in Harry Potter!

Thanks for all your help. We ate at the White Horse and Griffin on our wedding anniversary and it was lovely, what a great recommendation! We had trips to Goathland, Staithes and Scarborough as well and thoroughly enjoyed tem all. Thanks again!

Glad you had such a lovely time in one of my favourite parts of the country :goodvibes I love Staithes, and spent many a happy holiday there as a child as my dad was from the North East
