We all know about the major changes coming to DHS, but where do the restaurants stand?

In my opinion DHS has the best restaurants in Disney World. How safe are they as the park gets upgraded?

Pizza Planet is currently being changed. Mama Melrose is very likely to hange since permits have been filed for it. The rest of the park should stay relatively the same for now.

DHS has the best restaurants? It has historically been rated in dead last place over all for many years in reviews (look at Allears for instance).

ABC Commissary has improved a bit in recent years. A cold state hamburger on last trip. 7.6/10 Allears
Backlot Express Burgers almost as bad as ABC. Can you say warming ovens? 7/10 Allears.
Pizza Planet is just plain bad pizza but then theres only a few decent places for pizza in WDW. 7.1/10 Allears
Mama Melrose is ok but not great. 7.6/10 Allears
Sci Fi Diner's appeal is its atmosphere. A fun place. Food is decent but not the best. 7.4/10 Allears
Prime Time I have not tried. Menu and atmosphere looks a lot like our local 50's diners so no appeal to me but good ratings. 8.6/10 Allears
Brown Derby has very high ratings but is also rather expensive. Not sure a good value compared to other Signatures. 9.0/10 Allears
Staring Rolls is also very good but very limited menu. 9.0/10 Allears

All in all DHS has lagged behind the other parks on food quality for many years.

I disagree. Thanks to the World Showcase, Epcot has an amazing selection of food and different atmosphere to complement it. However, when it comes to original theming, DHS takes the perverbial cake. If you exclude fast food joints (with the excepting of different themes) they're all practically the same park to park. Prime Time, Sci Fi, and Brown Derby have always been my top choices at Disney World. Yes, the food varies a bit place to place, but the experience of each one is hard to match.

In my humble opinion, MK and AK lack memorable dinning experiences (Sorry Sunny Eclipse, I do love you). However I should admit I have not been since the new Fantasyland opened.

I like the restaurants there too  although most people on the Dis don't. I'm not sure what you mean by 'safe' though. Safe as in not dangerous? or safe to eat at, as in quality?

That one quick service in the back is no longer accessible..

They also started to add some echo lake food kiosks (which I kind of like the idea of but haven't been there to check it out yet).

I think the OP means safe from being demolished - are those restaurants going to stay the same.

I think the sitdowns are fine...the quickserve is terrible.

I would rank it second overall behind Epcot. AK would be 3rd due to bad original concept and magic kingdom last as it should be.

Best restaurants? :magnify:

To each their own of course. I'm hoping that they add more of interest with the new additions.

I think DHS table service options are pretty solid but their quick service leaves a lot to be desired

Plus we know at least 2 are coming with the Star Wars Experience (a more casual one and a signature one)

I'd imagine toy story will have some sort of snack/quick service location as well.

I was thinking that too, but don't recall seeing anything yet. Will be interesting to see what they put in as I got the feeling the idea is that you are "toy sized" in that land, so just a regular restaurant would be weird. ... maybe they do something that looks like a "Toy fast food" location, like a playdough factory or something

I have to say that 50s prime time is one of my favorites on property. It's so fun.

I've never understood the attraction of 50's Prime Time. We have 50's diners scattered all around where I live as well as many other towns I've visited. The food is similar. Nothing unique to me at 50's.

I think the OP meant "safe" as in, the restaurant is not on the corporate Disney chopping block.

We love Sci-Fi for the atmosphere and food and hope it always stays!

We don't have those diners around here, but its not the diner part that sets it apart.

Its the theme of the restaurant, like you're sitting in a 50's living room, and the games the waiters play with you are a lot of fun.

The waiters not only serve you food, but also provide entertainment during your dinner.

I think it's the atmosphere. You have your "cousins" yelling at you for wearing a hat or putting your elbows on the table. I also don't have many 50s style diners around me so that statement doesn't work for everyone. It's one of my personal favorite restaurants but not because of the food because of the atmosphere.

Another fan of eating at DHS! Prime Time is great! I actually like ABC and Sci Fi.

If you don't have something like that at home then I can see how it can be a fun time. But we have several around the area so for me its not unique. It's the same situation I see with Teppan Edo at Epcot. For those that do not have a Teppan restaurant in their local town its a fun unique place to dine. For others who do most seem to find Teppan Edo very good but pales in comparison to what they have at home. Many other restaurants at Disney are VERY unique with nothing like them elsewhere. Those are the ones I tend to favor and I agree, its not just the food but the atmosphere.

I completely agree with this. In my opinion, DHS is head and shoulders above the other parks when it comes to table service restaurants. Sci Fi is the best themed restaurants in all of WDW and 50's Prime Time isn't too far behind. While it doesn't often receive consistently favorable reviews, my family has always enjoyed Mama Melrose. No, it does't have a wonderful theme like the two I previously mentioned, but I think it does an excellent job of being versatile. My husband and I dined there on our honeymoon and found it very romantic. We go back every trip now and have always found it perfect for the two of us to have a nice, romantic lunch or dinner. Then, after we had our daughter, we discovered that it is also a great place to bring her for a family atmosphere. I know it is going to change and I'm not too upset about it, I just hope that aspect of it doesn't change. And DO NOT TOUCH Sci Fi or 50's Prime Time, PLEASE!
