Restaurant that others rave over but you think...really?

Another vote for Ohana, although I could be persuaded to give it another try. Also, my family hated Spoodles.

Boma, but DH and I realized we just don't really care for buffets.

I think Le Cellier is way overrated. That's just my opinion though. It wasn't BAD, but it was just eh. Ok. Nothing special, nothing better than an Outback Steakhouse. Also I found the Cheddar bacon soup to be beyond oversalted, it was crazy! And I salt EVERYTHING! I never thought I would meet a dish I found too salty but I did.

I really didn't feel the love for Cape May Cafe dinner. First off, everyone talks about crab legs, not one in sight when we were there. I thought the clambake was really tasteless. However, the restaurant was nice and clean (a big issue with me) and the service was fine. Desserts were eh, really nothing impressed us. We won't be back.

Arkeshus again, wasn't all that impressed. Princesses were okay. However, I can't understand how the dinner food could get such good reviews. The "cold buffet" wasn't very much at all, and the entrees really were nothing to write home about. I also don't understand why people bash CRT for the prices and say Arkeshus is so much better. I personally thought that the princess interaction was basically the same, the food was better at CRT and there is really not a big difference in price, they are both expensive. For a few dollars more, I would rather eat in the castle any day.

Again, just my opinion:goodvibes

LeCellier didn't do a thing for us either. Cape May Buffet was dissapointing. You couldn't pay us to go to Rose and Crown ever again.

I too have to agree that Chef Mickey's overrated. I think the lure of a restaurant with Mickey and a monorail overhead is what people like it because it can't be the food. The atmosphere is way too much for us! We are going to try Donald's Breakfast this year so wish us luck!

I agree with Chef Mickey's being overrated. The food is mediocre at best. However, nobody I know goes to Chef Mickey's expecting to eat gourmet food. We all go there for the characters and atmosphere, especially if you have young kids.

Another underwhelming place is the lunch/dinner at the Princess Dining at Akerhaus. The appetizer buffet is OK at best, while the entrees are just plain terrible. Breakfast there is a little bit better though - standard eggs, meats and breakfast buffet. My family will never do another lunch/dinner there, although we would consider another breakfast there.

Nine Dragons at the China pavilion- Epcot: the worst chinese food I ever ate ANYWHERE. I love Chinese food- it's my favorite- but you could not pay me a million bucks or yen to eat here again...

Restaurant Marrakesh, China pavilion, Epcot- they seated us, ignored us for 5 minutes, took our order as we were getting ready to leave, food was mediocre at best and the belly dancing was not worth having to tolerate the service and food.
I like middle-eastern food and am looking forward to trying Tangierine Cafe in Oct- I hear the food is MUCH better there than at RM...:confused3

Ironically, Akershus is a favorite of ours... but my family heritage is Norwegian and we enjoy the norwegian foods on the buffet that we cannot get anywhere at home in rural VA. Their fish is really good too!
So you see, opinions are anything but objective...:rotfl:

I don't remember what anything tasted like, nothing was repulsive during our trip in 11/09. However, I was very underwhelmed by Ohana's Breakfast. The dining room wasn't so much Polynesian as it was dingy. :confused3

I think if you live in an area w good restaurants, most if not all of the Disney choices are average. I think they are comparable to Outback, Olive Garden etc except they are all over-priced. In general you go to Disney for the entertainment not the food.

Biergarten - the food was downright NASTY the last time we were there. It tasted like dishwater and soap. Gross.

Oh that's another one for my list. My husband loves it but the kids and I just can never find anything on the buffet we like.

Kona definitely. I've gotten slammed so many times for saying that I thought it was terrible, but it was. The wait is long. The service is rushed. The food is cold and seems like it was sitting under heatlamps.

I do, however, enjoy the sushi bar at Kona. You just seat yourself (first come first serve) so no real wait. You can also REQUEST the sweet welcome bread and they bring it out. They offer the full kona menu there in addition to the sushi. But, sadly, everything that came out of the Kona kitchen was cold when it came to us there also.
So I just stick to the sushi and welcome bread.

I've heard a lot about the tonga toast but I saw a recipe for it and it's just deep fried sourdough bread (not even french toast style) with bananas in it. If I really decide to ever try something like that for breakfast, I'll get it downstairs at Captain Cookes (they offer it there too) for half the price.

For me it would be Chef Mickeys, but it could have been the lady changing her child's diaper on the floor in the middle of the restaurant that made me lose my appetite.
The food and atmosphere at Coral Reef were great although their service was almost bad enough to ruin the dining experience for me.

I would have to vote for Boma. We did breakfast there last year, not impressed at all. I was very excited to get the ADR the day of MNSSHP, then left thinking-that's it?
After reading this I noticed there are some resturants that I really like that others didn't. Everyone has different tastes, which is great so I can get my ADRs!!! :thumbsup2

Chef Mickey's, CRT, Nine Dragons, Sunshine Seasons (veggie DH who cannot stand mushrooms, and they couldn't make anything vegetarian and leave them out last time we were there), LTT.

Le Cellier and Whispering Canyon. Food at the former was decent, as was the service, but it's not a place I'd rave about. It's similar in quality to any solid steakhouse, but it's definitely not a must-visit restaurant. As for WCC, neither the food nor the frivolity nor the service is something I care to experience again. Been there twice and both times the food was average, the service atrocious, and even the fun factor was ruined by the server each time--both times the server felt no motivation to join in the shenanigans or draw us in, either.

Is there a restaurant (TS or CS) that others on this board go nuts over but when you try it, you are underwhelmed?

If I EVER wind up in Crystal Palace again it will be too soon for me.. seriously.. I'd rather starve.. sorry :)

The restaurant with the most hype that we disliked the most?

California Grill. Lousy food, and service so poor it was actually funny. Won't be returning.
