I'm going to a conference in Philly, and I'm looking for suggestions for a restaurant for dinner. I'm staying at The Loews Hotel, and won't have a car. TIA :)

Not sure of the location but I went to Spasso not too long ago and really enjoyed it.

Ralph's in the Italian Market on 9th Street for the best Italian food ever! It is a cash only restaurant, so go prepared.

Ralph's is known for its calamari and veal.

Good Choice

Also Crinittis (Not sure how to spell it.)Broad and Oregon Ave.YOu will need a cab for this one.But I LOVE there food.

Philly is my favorite food city, so many good choices. Also, I have found the downtown area to be quite walkable. We would only take a cab if I was wearing fashionable shoes that are impossible to walk in :)

http://www.amadarestaurant.com/ is AMAZING Spanish tapas, and fantastic sangria. It would be my #1 choice.

Also, you must visit the Redding Terminal Market and if roast pork is your thing, get the roast pork sandwich with spinach and provolone at DiNics. It is quite possibly the best sandwich in the country. You're right across the street, so no excuses!

If you have an unlimited budget, we really had a great meal at Union Trust http://www.uniontruststeakhouse.com/ but I think it's the kind of place that you might need to expense :)

Absolutely try to get to the Reading Terminal Market! Also, City Tavern is great and a history/culinary lesson to boot, the Irish Pub is fun, the Chart House along the Delaware River is good. Have a great trip!

Eric Rupert's 10 Arts at the Ritz Carlton near City Hall.

Our favorite.

I forgot about City Tavern. I took my kids there after a day of showing them Independence Mall, the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross' house, Ben Franklin's grave and the tomb of the unknown Revolutionary War Soldier.

You eat off of pewter dishes and some of the menu matches what would have been served to the founding fathers when they ate there. This includes rabbit, venison, etc. Don't be afraid. They also serve mainstream American fare, too.

The food is good and the atmosphere is fun... like going to LTT in Philadelphia without characters, unless you count the wait staff in costume.

After dinner, you can go to the Reading Terminal and get some pastries for dessert at Termini Brothers Bakery. YUM!

Thanks!!!Great suggestions-now I have to choose :)

If you like great service and fantastic food:

Fogo De Chao
Chima

These are both different Brazilian steakhouses. Chima is located at 19th & JFK (a little further out) and Fogo is around the 11th/12th street area and Locust (I think).

If you sign up on Chimas website you get either a 1/2 off or $25 coupon. Fogo also has lunch at a reasonable price whereas Chima does not serve lunch. The food is amazing.. and the service is wonderful.

A former work colleague loves Le Bec Fin. They are closing soon-- so if you want to try it, go soon.

Budakan is a great choice. I used to walk past it almost every day.. it always smelled delicious.

There is also a new casino not far from that area called SugarHouse. You would either take a cab.. you can't really walk it from the subway station.. (I tried to do it and it was pretty dangerous)

I can't remember the cross streets of the Loew's. The Market Frankford El (The Subway) is actually really good in the downtown area. There are stops at 2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th, 13th, 15th. I never had a problem on the El-- used to take it daily! A3ll of those stops would be tourist stops. Spring Garden (after 2nd) is not a touristy area, and neither is 30.th

My company has our department appreciation dinner here every year, and it's awesome. It's pretty far from the Lowe's, though. You are in the right area to take advantage of the Reading Terminal Market. We enjoyed La Scala a lot, also.
