Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me anything about the restaurant in Mexico? It always looks so interesting to me as we are riding in the boat on the ride there. I never think to book that one, but would like some opinions please.

Thanks!
Angie

I would also love opinions...it was the only choice available for Candlelight Processional package on Christmas Eve, but we're excited to try something new!

The food is okay, but I think it's worth checking out for the atmosphere alone.

It's good- expensive, but so is everywhere else in WDW. The atmosphere is very nice- very romantic.

We ate their Monday night on the dinning plan. We had the Filete Motuleno - (Grilled beef tenderloin over black beans and melted cheese, ranchero sauce, poblano pepper strips and fried plaintain.) It was very good but expensive if not on the dinning plan, I thought. The atmosphere is nice but not sure if small children would enjoy the dark setting.

I Love the San Angel Inn. It is supposed to be modeled after the real restaurant in Mexico City. The atmosphere is great and so is the food. The margarita's are nice too. I always try to eat there when I go to Epcot.
But then again I love Mexican food, so I guess you have to be a Mexican foodie to appreciate the place:thumbsup2 .

I've been to the San Angel Inn for lunch and it was fantastic. I loved the atmosphere, and the food was great.

We went with our DD5 and DD7 and they liked it a lot - the dark setting didn't bother them at all.

It's a nice relaxing place with some of the best ambience in Epcot.

Avoid it unless there is nowhere else to eat. Crowded, loud, poor service, so-so food.

We'll usually go just once a year because they do my favorite Mexican dish that I can't find anywhere else - chiles en nogada (chiles in walnut sauce). It's always in September, so we go to celebrate DH and my birthdays. Otherwise, we wouldn't ever go, for the same reasons Uncleromulous gives.

This year with FWF so early, PI closing, and other things going on, we're skipping it and won't miss it, really.

In the end, we like the *atmosphere* of the pavilion, so I'm still holding my breath for the tequila bar that hasn't been started yet.

This is the only place onsite that refused to let my DD eat from the kid's menu, even though she was 12 at the time. In fact, they mentioned it to me as we were being seated for lunch; when I asked for a children's menu, they asked her age and said "She must order as an adult". I know, there are age limits on the kids menus, but usually Disney realizes that not all kids eat adult food (especially ethnic varieties) and are willing to make exceptions. San Angel Inn is the only place that has ever enforced the kids-menu-age thing, and we've been to WDW 18 times! We ended up splitting some nacho-type thing and a bowl of soup and left. It's a lovely atmosphere, it seems, and I adore both tex-mex and authentic mexican cuisine, but if I can't feed my kid, we won't stay.

just got back from wdw yesterday and I do not recommend the san angel inn. the atmosphere is great as stated above, but the food is terrible! Service also leaves a lot to be desired

Against Dis advice, we are trying out San Angel for lunch on our upcoming trip. My boys are so excited to be eating in Mexico. I know it'll be expensive, but that's to be expected in WDW. I hope it's fun and a good experience for our family.

We went in April, and it was nice. The atmosphere was wonderful. The food was pretty good, not the best mexican I've ever had but not bad. The frozen strawberry margarita was good (and strong :rolleyes1 ) It's not our first choice but we wouldn't be opposed to going again.

The atmosphere is fantastic, but the food is pretty average and overpriced. The food was probably one step below the kind you'd find at On the Border or Chevy's, but more expensive. I'm glad I tried it, but probably won't go back on any future trips.

The restaurant is dark, the atmosphere is ok and the food not that good. I live in New Mexico and the food here is way better than the food at SAI.

Plus I am not sure why everyone raves about the margaritas from the stand outside...I thought they were terrible.

I've NEVER understood it either - both inside and outside I think they're just awful, and weak to boot.

The first and last time I tried one inside, it tasted strongly of sour mix, and I asked for a plateful of limes to squeeze into it to make it palatable. I've tried the ones outside maybe 10 times, thinking maybe the NEXT time it'll be good.

Edit:

I used this recipe for margaritas over Labor Day, scaled up, and it was fantastic:

Partida Agave Nectar Margarita
1 1/2 ounces tequila
3/4 ounce agave nectar
3/4 ounce water
juice from one large lime
ice

San Angel Inn for me is my most fav. restaurant at EPCOT. There are others that in EPCOT we love quite a bit but for me San Angel Inn is it!

I just love the atmosphere, the smell of the food as you walk in down the ramp, the sounds of the water, the mariachi band (called Mariachi Cobre) that plays is terrific so call me a nostalgia junkie! For me, eating here is a tradition.

However, I normally like to have a decent sit down meal a few times while at WDW. So for me, San Angel Inn is definately for us a sit down meal.

It's just my hubby and I but we order a alcoholic drink each, and appetizer each, and an entree each. The bill usually hit the 100 mark sometimes and we could never finish the food. So, in the past few visits, I've gotten my game plan down.

What we do now to save money there since we know we can't eat everything we order (and trust me we can pack it away) we now still order a drink, an appetizer (I always get the Soupa Azteca soup and he gets the Ceviche), and one entree off of the vegetarian menu to share. We still are full but comfortable and also it is nice to know that cutting down the one entree saves money also.

Until someone told me about the vegetarian menu last year, I had no idea it existed. So, when the waiter comes over we ask him to also bring the vegetarian menu with the regular menu. If you ask for it, the vegetarian menu normally has only 2 entrees on there at about 10+ dollars cheaper than an normal entree and boy is that vegetarian entree even better than the meat entrees!!!!!!!!! You have to try it.

If you haven't eaten here, try it at least once and don't forget to try and catch the Mariachi band play inside the building. Their schedule will be in the EPCOT park map.

Been there done that won't do it again: worst food, even worse service, too loud.

Mediocre food and the weakest margaritas I've ever had - there is no way there is any tequila in those drinks.
