we will be in Disney in January 2019, looking for dining options. We have 2 boys 12 & 6, not looking for character meals but something entertaining. Thinking of t-Rex or rainforest in Disney springs. Is there anything else in the area that's similar??

Those are both very well themed restaurants and would probably be good. Raglen Road has entertainment at night which may be fun, though it's probably more geared towards older kids/adults. Ohana at the Polynesian has some fun activities for kids and Whispering Canyon/50's Primetime have a fun themes and if you get a good server it can be a lot of fun. My kids (boy and girl) still talk about running through the restaurant to give other customers ketchup even though it's been years since going there.

My boys have always liked Teppan Edo. They loved Whispering Canyon, but we won't be going back since they "toned down" the fun/antics.

More $$$, but Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue at Fort Wilderness is a lot of fun for families.

I'll second Sci-Fi Dine-In at HS. Great place for kids, or anyone. I love the theming there.

I have asked this of my son every time the question is asked here. From age 8 or so to his current 14, his answer is always “the restaurants with food”.

Which maybe doesn’t feel helpful to you in planning mode, but maybe will ease your nervous mind about it. If it has food it’ll likely be good for them.

His only objection to CRT, for example, was that their kids cheese pizza was tiny. That was the trip when we realized kids meals were no longer appropriate. He was 8ish.

I like the suggestions above. Whispering Canyon, Sci Fi, 50s, Teppan Edo, Ohana were places I took the boys back in the day. ESPN as well.

I would suggest at least one character meal. A dinner at Chef Mickey or Garden Grill or Grove was something they enjoyed until they were well into their teens. Disney World and characters go together. :)

My DS10 enjoys:

Whispering Canyon
HDDR
O'hana
ESPN Club
Trader Sam's (for mocktails and apps)
Sci Fi
50's Prime Time
Rainforest
TRex
Skipper's Canteen
Le Cellier (he likes steak!)
Cali Grill (loves the view)

My boys (10 and 12 our last trip) loved Sci-Fi and also liked Cinderella’s Table for the castle experience and the food/dessert, not the princesses lol...though Cinderella was AMAZING with them. They liked Biergarten and also really enjoyed ‘Ohana breakfast and ask to go there all every trip. They also like sitting by the pool and ordering QS.
