Oh ok. Thx for the clarification.

Are these restaurants in the parks or at the various Disney resorts?

Both. Some are at resorts some are in the parks... For example Cinderella's Royal Table (Princesses) and Crystal Palace (Winnie the Pooh and friends) are both Character meals inside the MK. Be Our Guest is a counter service but not easy to get in as a walk up you would need to do fast pass or a reservation (it's the only counter service like that though). Chef Mickey's (Mickey and friends) is at the Contemporary. 1900 (Cinderella and step sisters) is at the Grand Floridian and is a character meal. Ohana's(Lilo and Stich sp?) is at the Polynesian and is a character meal. I don't know where Cape May is... never been there. Garden Grill (rotating rest in Epcot) character (Mickey and Chip and Dale). Coral Reef (the other one I couldn't remember the name of earlier) not a character meal is in Epcot there are lots of table service non character places in Epcot. Tusker House in AK is (Mickey and friends has Daisy). There are lots of table service rest in Hollywood too that are good...Hollywood and Vine (has some character meals), 50's Prime time and Sci-Fi.

I was going to suggest the Hollywood and Vine character for the little ones. I found the food pretty good, more adventurous than Chef Mickey (though the obligatory nuggets, mac and cheese etc) and Disney Jr characters. I think we have aged out this trip, but DD loved it last trip at 6 1/2y.
our faves are Ohana (but huge Stitch fans), Tusker house, Crystal Palace, Be Our Guest and Whispering Canyon.
I would love to hear people favorite counter service meals though!

Lol yes! This is very helpful. One of my friends is going through a divorce. Her DD is 4 months older than my DS. After my 1st cruise with DS, she mentioned wanting to go on a Disney cruise with us. We talked about August or September 2016. We discussed doing a 4 night cruise with a day at MK before and a day at AK after the cruise. I think DS would love seeing the animals. I saw a video of the view from someone's AKL balcony and it made me want to stay there. DS would enjoy seeing the animals from our room.

I'll be looking to my Disney single parents "family" here, when she's ready to plan that.

It's obvious that I know nothing about how to vacation at WDW during this day and age. Lol

Here are my comments:

1900 Park Fare-dinner - Food was not good. But the characters were HILARIOUS!
Be Our Guest -lunch - havent been yet! Will be trying it in Oct thou!
The Crystal Palace-dinner - I've always loved CP, for all meals.
Cape May-breakfast - Awesome place for breakfast. Love this place! Both food, characters, and atmosphere is amazing.
Chef Mickey-dinner - I've tried breakfast, not dinner. sorry. if you've never been, i'd keep this one. You get the fab 5!
'Ohana-breakfast - LOVE ohana breakfast!! so relaxing...you sit and wait for characters while eating and enjoying the gorgeous atmosphere!

I would love to hear people favorite counter service meals though!

By far, our favorite is Four Seasons in The Land (EPCOT). The roasted chicken with black beans and rice is wonderful!! And it's soooo much food. My DS (15) and I share one meal from there and are very comfortably satisfied. They also have a great dessert selection instead of just the carrot cake or choc cake that you get at other QS locations. For the basic burger/fries meals, we prefer Cosmic Ray's in Tomorrowland. Another great place to do QS but not the basic burger/fries meal is at Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom.
