Just got back and thought I would tell you about our dining experience:

1) Whispiring Canyon Cafe: We have eaten their before and it has become our kids favorite spot. But, we were really disapointed this trip.

Service: Slow - to get started - after that we were well taken care of.

Food: Average to below - Our ribs were so undercooked that we sent them back (and I love meet that is medium rare!).

Atmosphere: I have no idea why but Disney chose to staff the restaurant with many folks that just do not have a voice that carry's. Also, many of the servers were foriegn - and - it was difficult understanding them. Sorry, I am not trying to rag on foriegners - I spend my working life in other countries speaking with folks that speak English as a second language. I just do not think it was fair to cast them in this resteraunt.

Overall: I give it a 4 out of 10.

2) Hollywood and Vine: We took advantage of the Fantamic! Dinner package. That was well worth it and I would encourage others to take advantage of it. I have read complaints where they stick you over in the corner - which they do - but we had no trouble seeing. They did a great job of making sure that some action is always in front of you.

Service: Again slow to start - our server kept the drinks moving but we had to wait 10 minutes for our bill.

Food: Pretty good. The Prime Rib is a bit fatty, they did not do a great job restocking the food bar. I think the salad options are a bit sparse. But, they give you lots of choices on other things. Anyone can find one or two items they really enjoy.

Atmosphere: Ok - a bit loud - but ok.

Overall: A 8 out of ten - but - without the Fantasmic! reservations I would call it a 5.

Hey bom_noite

I know you're not getting at foreigners but was it because the servers are supposed to be part of the "show" so to speak which meant that it didn't hold up as good as previously for you?

I'm sure there are others that haven't heard what happens (or supposed to happen) in this restaurant. If you could elaborate a little more that may help others here understand a little better.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Sam, good point - right after I posted this I realized that those who had never been to the Whispiring Canyon may have no clue what I was talking about. My apologies.

If you have never been to Whispiring Canyon a big part of the "show" is that the wait staff holler out things all through out dinner. They will announce that a certain table needs ketchup - and - in return everyone with a bottle on their table will head over and share theirs.

All the way through dinner the kids kept saying "what did he say?" It took a little of the fun out of the experience. A big part of the show here depends upon your waiter. Ours was fine, but, not as good as we have had in the past.

We did Hollywood n vine when it was a ch lunch - well worth it!! atmosphere wise..
We have booked wCC for lunch for the cheap food offerings in September. Hope it perks up a bit by then!!!

I ate at Whispering Canyon early May. Had the pork chops for dinner as recommended by the cast members and they were wonderful.

WC has this glazed banana/pasty with carmelized sauce for desert. I had it twice while at VWL. Probably a good thing that it's made in Florida; if it was made locally, well, let's just say it would be a staple in my diet.

We had the same experience at Whispering Canyon Cafe- we LOVED watching all the other servers whoop and holler and our guy was just not on the ball. He was really slow to take our order and get our food out, and yet he seemed rushed with everything- like he was new and was under a lot of stress. When we asked for ketchup, he half-heartedly yelled "need some ketchup over here" and then none ever came. My husband had to get up and find some himself!! We were anxiously awaiting for the 20 bottles of ketchup to show up and when we had to track down our own, well, it was disappointing. But the food was A+ (except for the gross beef stew- ew) and it was fun watching the other servers interact. My favorite was when some younger girl (late teens early twenties??) was on her cell phone (how could she hear a thing!!) and the waitress goes "ATTENTION EVERYONE ----- COULD YOU PLEASE KEEP IT DOWN? SHE IS ON HER CELL PHONE!! THANK YOU!" It was freaking hilarious.
That along with the pony races and making the kids "promise to eat their veggies, mind their parents, and not, repeat, NOT go to Universal Studios or SeaWorld." Priceless.
