Resorts With Monorail Access

Hi Gang

Just wondering if Disney was ever planning on adding more resorts to be on a monorail line. It seems such a shame that only 3 resorts have monorail access. I know it must be a cost thing but it would be so nice to have more than 3 to choose from.

As far as anyone knows, Disney has no plans to expand the monorail at this time, and most likely will not ever do it. I think it's cost prohibative for them to do so (Walt would disagree, but that's another thread). You can buy a lot of buses and pay a lot of drivers for what it would cost to add on some of the other resorts.

I agree, I do wish they'd add on a few more hotels. Or at least link up AK and MGM to the existing hotels.

The buses at WDW STINK. I do not care what anyone says, they are terrible. Every trip to WDW we have taken, there have been problems with the buses. If I want to ride a bus, I will visit a big city. Disney made a big mistake not extending the monorail. The monorail makes staying WDW special. It is part of the fun. A lot of people ask why should they stay on-site when you can stay off site for less money and get to the parks the same way as everyone else. That is why WDW has to discount their resorts. I realize the cost is very high for extending the monrail (I am a Transportation Engineer) but it is more fuel efficent and causes less pollution than the bus system. Walt wanted WDW to be a model of good planning. Too bad his vision died with him because WDW is just massive sprawl of development with a slightly prettier face and more landscaping.

To address you original question, WDW does have plans to extend the monorail in the future, however it is so low of a priority that it will probably never get built.
