Do rooms usually free up at the 31 day mark with people canceling last minute?

Resort we want to stay at is booked up and thought we would have a chance maybe at the 31 day mark.

Not as many as people who would like to snag one of those rooms hope for.

I have the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I'm looking for the day of Thanksgiving and Black Friday at VGF. Think it's possible for only two days?

No.

But for what it's worth, I hope you prove me wrong.

Not that I have noticed. After a few years of unsuccessful waitlists and not being able to book where we want when we want. we decided to buy our favorite resorts and book before 7 months.

My waitlist for 1 night in a BWV studio came through at 28 days.

If you have the WL run to 7 days out and check the website frequently I think you have a decent to good chance of success if you'll take 1 day at a time. But you might not get them until inside the 7 day window when the WL are gone.

I know I must have made someone very happy when I cancelled a 7 night stay for a BLT standard studio at day 32.

Those are very busy days. I don't think your chances are great. I suggest you check the website often to try to snag what you need. It is possible to get the room you want before it gets assigned to someone on the wait list. Good luck.

Is the wait list managed by a computer program or a person? Do they only run the wait list at certain times of the day? Curious how it works snagging a reservation before the wait list is run.

There's seems to be some debate on this issue but at the end of the day is it doesn't run continuously and it's often that you'll get things show up online not matched to your waitlist that exactly mach you WL. So room that are canceled aren't held or immediately matched to the WL. It's also not done consistently from a timing standpoint. It appears to me it's a second tier job for those who have other primary responsibilities thus it'd be done when they had a chance.

Based on my experience with other points-based timeshare, I'd say, "Yes, in general, I do think this happens quite frequently." My other points club lists a 30% turnover rate on reservations. However, this number would not be as high if you isolated reservations for newer properties or around holidays.

Lots of members have "soft" booked various dates when they might want to travel. Given DVC's generous cancellation policies, I'm guessing there is plenty of turn-around near the 30-day window once folks give up on finding the perfect airfare for a non-important trip.

Ah, I doubt you'll be successful for a holiday weekend at the newest property. I'd definitely set this up "night by night" and be stalking the website if the dates are important to you. Have a backup plan in mind!

For what it's worth, this was my experience 2 weeks ago with a waitlist match. I had 3 out of the 4 weeknights I needed at Old Key West booked in a 2-bedroom. The missing night was a Tuesday, which surprised me. I stalked the website and called member services daily, then hourly, then even more...specifics on that would be embarrassing to admit! The waitlist was dropped 7 days prior to arrival. The room NEVER became available, so I moved to a Treehouse Villa at Saratoga for one night, then back to Old Key West...getting a second night at Saratoga was impossible at that point. I checked with the front desk the first 2 nights at Old Key West, called member services, and prayed I would not have to move because of the inconvenience during such a short trip. I still had to move on a Tuesday morning, then back to Old Key West Wednesday morning, then checked out on Thursday. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst...good luck.

I certainly hope so, because I am in the same boat, except I only need Friday the 28th. Luckily I have that night booked at BCV so I am covered either way, but I would prefer not to move. But I am expecting the worst, hoping for the best :)

If a waitlist comes through at less than 31 days, and you chose to replace an existing night with it, do those points go into holding even though you're replacing them with another night? Thanks :)

Yes, they do. But the new reservation should use those holding points unless the new reservation requires fewer points.

And because those the cancelled reservation points goes into holding, the new reservation cannot be made more than 60 days out.
