Resort suggestions for family of five?

My wife, DD, and I are going to POR this Oct, and now our neighbors are thinking about coming as well. They have 3 children, ages 8, 4, 2. Are there accomodations at POR where they would be comfortable? Or, should they look at a different resort that would fit them better?

They have not been to WDW before, so I want to help them as much as possible.

Thanks for your help, we are not used to these types of planning issues, being just the 3 of us.

Thanks,
Andy

You're in luck. POR is the only moderate resort that accomodates a family of 5. The AB section has trundle beds. Although, because their youngest is 2, they could stay in any of the resorts because they don't count towards the room limit of 4.

I would have them request the AB section of POR. The 4 year old would probably love the trundle bed. Mine did last year.

Is it only the AB section at POR that has the trundles? Do the Mansions?

Also, WL has Bunk Beds, right? I guess that might work as well, although it'd be a little more expensive.

Andy

POR is exactly where they'll want to be with 5. It is the only moderate resort that accommodate 5. They should request the Alligator Bayou section. Many of the rooms in AB have a trundle bed under one of the full beds. A child can easily sleep on that bed.

If the 2 year old will sleep in a pack-n-play, they could go just about anywhere. I believe that until the child is 3, s/he doesn't really count.

If they are willing to go to a deluxe rate, I would recommend the Poly. There you get two queen beds and a twin sized day bed. Very comfortable for 5; but costs more than POR.

Yes, just AB. Although, they could stay in the Mansions because the 2 year old doesn't count toward the room occupancy limit. I think they would like having the trundle bed though.

WL has bunk beds but those are a request so there is no guarantee they could get them.

Thanks everybody, sounds like POR AB section for a moderate, and Poly for a deluxe. I will let them know this evening.

Thanks again!

Sounds good! Some other options could be connecting rooms at POP, a junior or regular suite at CSR, or a bunk bed room at WL....but all of these sound great. :-)

Now I have another question...

When I was on disney.com, trying to get a quote on a room at POR for them, it does not allow me to select POR because the max occupancy is 4. I had listed the childrens' ages, and thought since one of them is 2 yrs old, it would not count her, but apparently it does.

So, will they be able to stay there with 5 in a room? Or will they have to select a different resort?

Andy

Our familyof five will be staying at the Beach Club in July. The pool and proximity to Epcot were big attractions. The room is larger than PO AB and has Queen beds with a day bed rather than fulls and a trundle. Our kids are older though. We stayed twice at POR and loved it. Time for a change for us! :grouphug:

Call CRO to book. If you need to book on-line don't put the third child in and just call them after you book. SInce the child is under 3 it doesn't matter. ALso since it's an under 3 year old they can stay in any resort.

Yeah, we have stayed at BC before and liked it also. Big price difference though between it and POR. I wanted to give them a bottom line price, and then they can go from there if they want to upgrade.

Thanks.

Okay, makes sense. I will quote them out with the two older kids then, and they can call to book.

Thank you.

:badpc: I don't recommend trying to use Disney's online system. It's a bit quirky. For some reason, it does not seem to work well for people trying to book POR for 5 even though that is what is allowed. You'll need to call directly.

Yes, they can definitely stay there. We did it last year.

when the site asks for the childrens ages they should not specifically count the 2 yo however we have 5 and I went thru a TA do do mine...I had the same problem with the website, otherwise call a CM thru Disney directly and they can help you with that. All that said we are staying at the Poly however we were going to do POR AB at one point then CR garden wing room which is cheaper than the Poly and walking distance to the MK. There are bunk beds at WL but not guranteed and the sq footage is not as large as the other deluxes. Depending on their budget there are options out there for a family of five!! Just depends on what they want out of WDW...

When using the Disney website, I have found that putting in the original request with 4 people and if you go through that you will eventually see a choice on right hand to change the request. Use that form to add the 3rd child and choose POR specifically... it will then give you the quote for 5 people.

I have no idea why but it works that way! :confused3

Good Luck!

Kelly

If your 2 yo is small enough, you could get just about any room and get a crib. We did this at Dixie Landings when he was a toddler and had more than enough room!
