Hi , we have never been to the world in October , but are booking a trip for Oct , 2012  F&W , MNSSHP , and my B-day :yay:

This is the dilema  , yup of course there is a dilema..... , we have been spoiled by renting DVC points the last couple of years , I love the villa's , the washer/dryer , kitchen , 2 bathrooms ,LOVE IT !
This year , we are trying to save money , will be going for the first time with DF and my 2 kids , we were going to try and save $$$$ by staying at CSR , but I found 150 pts at 10$PP to stay at OKW (never been)(stayed at WLV,AKV and SSR). I am wondering if my fellow DISsers can help me with my desicion , tell me about OKW , tell me about Disney resort deals in October .
What would you do ?

I've never stayed at OKW, but I did face a similar dilemma next October. Our last trip (October '11) spoiled us with a stay at Contemporary on Annual Pass discount, we're going back in March (staying offsite b/c we're going with extended family) and we decided we wanted to fit in one last trip next October before our APs expire.

Originally, we planned to stay at CSR to save some money. Since no discounts had been offered yet for next October, we figured there would probably be an AP discount eventually that would bring our 5-night stay from $1263 down to $880-$945, depending on the discount.

I looked into renting points and found we could stay at Animal Kingdom Villas for 6 nights in a savannah view room for the same price as the AP-discounted moderate (for just 5 nights at the moderate, though). Just for fun, I priced out 6 nights in a savannah view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge through Disney and found my point rental would be less than half the (would-be) AP-discounted price of that room.

As far as projected discounts for next October, beyond AP discounts (which almost always come out, one way or another), no one knows. Especially since the Fantasyland Expansion will be partially open by then.

When I started researching point rentals, another Dis member who's rented many times pointed me in the direction of another set of message boards that have a very reliable for-rent board. If you want to expand your point-rental search beyond the DIS, you can PM me, I can email you the site.

Good luck! October is a GREAT time to go to Disney. We're hooked on the Food and Wine Festival and our trip in Oct. '12 will be our third October trip in three years!

I actually priced it out also with a mod , and DVC would cost us about 20$ more , but staying 7 nights rather than 6 , seems like a no brainer , unless Disney comes out with the room promo's for October .:confused3

Disney doesn't have a great deal of incentive to offer discounts in October; due to Halloween, Food and Wine Festival and Columbus day holiday. They have no trouble filling rooms that time of year.

We love OKW in October 2010 and would stay there again in a heartbeat. I am looking at Oct 2012 also and would love to stay at AoA, but it would take a really great discount to beat renting DVC.
