Resort/room suggestions?

We are planning a WDW trip for next year and I would like any suggestions on where we should stay and in what type of room. DH and I will be going with DD (6) and a new baby (7mo. by then) we might also be joined by MIL, but that is not for sure. We would like some privacy from the kids, but obviously be in the same room. We want to stay at WDW. The hotel does not have to be luxury, but a moderate would be fine also.

Wow! So much about where you stay depends upon your preferences. A moderate can work out fine, but which one depends upon how important theming is to you, what parks you want to focus on, etc. As far as privacy goes, most rooms don't have a separate space for the kiddies, but, the bathroom doors have locks.

What I would suggest is that you review your finances, decide what you can afford, and then choose, out of those, the one that has your preferred theming, and is convenient to the park you think you will be spending the most time in. With small children, you might consider, if affordable, going deluxe on a monorail resort so you'll be most convenient to MK. Also with a baby, a less spread out resort might be preferable. If you decide moderate, POFQ might be the best choice for that since it is the smallest. It also has the boat to DTD.

This is sort of a hard one to answer. As your going to have 3 adults, two children with one under two, there are no moderates/values that give you privacy unless your willing to rent two rooms with connecting door to keep it cost efficient. Now if your willing to pay a bit more, CSR has suites which is estentially two connecting rooms but you'll have two bathrooms as well so the kids and MIL will have a seperate room but cost is certainly around what you'll be paying for 2 rooms not matter what.

You do have another option as well if your willing to spend a bit more. There are the Ft. Wilderness vacation homes (trailor). You'll have a bedroom with full size bed and two bunk beds and a murphy pull down in the living room. Your MIL and kids can sleep in the bedroom while you and hubby have living room to yourselves. Another option is to rent DVC points for a 1 bedroom stay. I would suggest renting for a stay at OKW as it is a bit cheaper plus the rooms are a bit larger (this way MIL and DD 6 can have the pullout bed in the living room and 7month old can have the crib while you and hubby have the kingsize bedroom) or at WLV as closest to MK. You can keep some of the cost down by making a few meals in the unit (breakfast and one or two lunches/dinners are easy enough).

Lastly is to stay offsite at another timeshare rental where you can easily rent a 2 bedroom for about 1/2 cost of staying onsite.

If your budget allows, I would recommend a deluxe resort on the monorail. We just back from a week long stay at the Poly and it was great! Since you'll have a young child and a baby, you can't beat the convenience of being on the monorail - the time for getting back and forth to MK and Epcot is so much shorter, and the transportation more convenient. Plus, if you don't want to be in the parks until closing, you can still see the MK fireworks from the beach at GF, Poly or CR (we would walk down to the beach in our jammies and slippers to watch them at the Poly - its very laid back there, which we loved!) The rooms at the Poly are very big - we've stayed at POR twice, and while we enjoyed it, the rooms are quite noticeably smaller than the poly; the extra space is great. Good luck planning

Are there any websites that actually show the layout of the Junior suites? (CSR or Contemporary) And how "rustic" is Ft. Wilderness cabins? I would love to stay at the Contemporary because of the convenient location, but Ft. Wildeness looked pretty interesting as well. Is it really far away from parks? Thanks for all the help so far.

Fort Wilderness is wonderful! You don't feel very "rustic" in the cabins at all! You have a full kitchen with all the appliances, and daily mousekeeping (they even do your dishes!). You also get a nice deck with a grill and a picnic table.

FW is just a short boat ride over to MK. They also have very good bus service to the other parks.
