hello everyone... i am new to forums so please forgive me for such a long message. i am hoping someone can help answer a question regarding room requests. i have read and heard about faxing/calling in a room request to your resort a week before arrival. my question is... what do you say? can you request a complimentary upgrade, if available? i would have never thought of doing this but friends have suggested that i take advantage of this opportunity for a possible upgrade. my only justification in doing this is that i will be celebrating my 15 yr wedding anniversary and my birthday during our stay. any thoughts would be appreciated? thanks.

Welcome to the Boards :wave2:

My understanding is that they don't even look at faxed requests anymore. When you reserve your room tell them what type of room you would like and prioritize your requests. That doesn't mean you will get everything you want but can never hurt.

Regarding upgrades, in 7 trips I received 1 and that was without asking. Got a water view versus a standard at the BC.

Like you, I am going in May and celebrating our 20th anniversary :love2: . When you made your reservations did you note your anniversary and birthday? I am hoping for an upgrade, but it will be the luck of the draw.

i had my travel agent (AAA) make a note of our anniversary/birthday. she actually suggested that we follow up with a call. i will keep my fingers crossed. thanks for the info. i feel silly calling the GF sounding like i want a freebie.

I don't fax anything; just note that we'd like a non-smoking room 'cause that's all we really care about. We were surprised once with a free upgrade at the Beach Club and we upgraded to a courtyard view at check-in once at Wilderness Lodge. That's usually just pure luck. I wouldn't request an upgrade via fax or in the requests on your reservation. I'd ask at check-in if an upgrade is available.

About a week before we arrived at the Coronado I called them directly and requested a room close to a bus stop. I was having bad heel spurs and wanted to cut down on walking as much as I could. They gave us a room pretty close to a stop, thought it was a decent walk to the Pepper Mill. They also gave us a room facing the courtyard rather than the parking lot.

thanks to everyone. i think i will give a call the week before and try my luck. another question... what are pin codes? how do you get one? i'm guessing AP stands for Annual Passholder, which i am not. trying to figure out how else to get the room discount codes i hear so much about.

Just make sure that your requests are noted in your reservation. Keep in mind that they are only requests, many people are celebrating special occasions when they go to WDW.

You might want to post a separate questions about the codes on the codes and rates board here in resorts for more answers.

Just to re-iterate what you've seen above... if you call/fax the resort, it's only wasting your money to make the call. Unfortunately with high occupancy there's no way that the Resort Staff can fulfill all the requests.

If, when you booked, you mentioned that it was a special occasion, your CM might have placed the note in your booking. It really depends on who you get, what you ask for.

If you have placed it with CRO, give em a call and ask that they note it as being your 15th Anniversary. My friend often notes the reservations and hopes for the best. Unfortunately there is no guarntee.

For room requests, again, they can't all be fulfilled, but if you ask, you might get one or 2. People who ask for less special things are likely to get them.
