We have an extra table service that we'd like to fill with a new restaurant. It's on a day we don't have park tickets & thought about trying one of the resorts for a change. We already have breakfast planned at Boma (first time for us there). We have small children & picky teenagers who might poo-poo somewhere adventurous. What are your favorite resort restaurants & why?

We love Kona Cafe and Ohana (dinner). They're both delicious and we make a point to go every trip. The other resort restaurants we frequent are signature and would require 2 table service credits. Check out the menus for the ones I mentioned! Enjoy your trip!

I have picky eaters too and mine wouldn't like Boma or Saana or Ohanas. I have looked at the menus and they are not standard fare.

You might try BoatWrights at the Port Orleans Riverside resort. Or Whispering Canyon Cafe at The Wilderness Lodge. I have heard that is a very FUN meal, the servers cut up and make a lot of fuss over things. Like if you ask for a straw or a bottle of ketchup or say your glass is not big enough. Those are just some of the things I have heard will start a ruckus at that place.
Cape May Cafe has a seafood buffet at the Beach Club Resort and they have crab legs and fried shrimp, fish, mussels, etc plus some non seafood type food. You can see the menu on allears.net

We enjoyed the Whispering Canyon Cafe at The Wilderness Lodge. When you ask for ketchup, the waiter yells for ketchup and another guest brings over about 8 or more bottles of ketchup. When its yelled for again, whoever has the ketchup bottles must carry them over to the other table. Its fun and the food was good. Ribs, chicken and stuff like that.

We also like the Pepper Market at CSR, lots of variety to choose from. Its not a TS, its a CS; but you can get a good meal that isnt just a burger and fries.

Have you actually eaten at Ohanas? I have a FIL who was raised eating only Southern food (he did not have pizza or salad until he was an adult in the Marine Corps). He won't eat Chinese food. He did not care for Boma (we went anyways b/c we were staying at AKL)...

Everyone in the family LOVED Ohana (from the grandpa who doesn't eat fondue b/c it is too weird to my 3 year old). It is just grilled chicken, steak, pork, shrimp (nothing is overly seasoned)...what is exotic about that :confused3
The bread pudding is just basically french toast with caramel sauce (again, not exotic)
Salad is salad...the bread is a little sweet (yum)
Broccoli and noodles aren't excotic either

Ohana will also bring the kids some standard kids fare (nuggets, mac n cheese or something) if you ask

The only thing listed there that anybody in my family would eat would be the grillede chicken. So for my family that food is very exotic.

I don't know much about the Dining Plan, but it seems like any buffet would be able to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters....and you get the Character bonus too.

My 3 VERY picky boys enjoy:
'Ohana
Garden Grill
Cape May

They have always eaten well at any one of those places since their are choices each of them like. ('Ohana being the favorite! The noodles and meats are always a big hit, along with the dessert of course.). :thumbsup2 If there is a problem with the menu though, many times they will make something like mac & cheese or chicken nuggets if you request them. They are usually quite accommodating.

IMHO, these three would probably work:
1) 1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian)
2) Chef Mickey's (The Contemporary)
3) Cape May Cafe' (The Beach Club)
All 3 are buffets, and they all seem to satisfy the younger, finicky eaters.
And remember - two of the three are "on the Monorail" and are easily accessable... however, if you are trying to avoid the MK (not going to the "parks" that day) and you are afraid that seeing "the Castle" might be a problem, then CMC would be a great choice. :wizard:

Thanks for all the help! My son will usually eat anything - we just have to be careful of his nut allergy. My nephew is the picky one. No veggies & almost no fruit will pass his lips without gagging. He's basically your hot dog, nugget, mac & cheese kinda kid. Will most restaurants keep stuff like that on hand for just this reason? We would all like to venture out to try something new but we're dependant on what the kids menu has. We're going to Ohana, Boma, Big River Grille, Chef Mickey's, Liberty Tree Tavern. Looking at Cape May buffet and perhaps Grand Floridian Cafe. Has anyone ever called the restaurant directly to ask them about what they keep in stock for picky eaters?

I vote for Cape May Buffet. We've always had good food there and there is a ton to choose from. When you make your ressie, not the nut allergy on it.
I have an allergy to tree nuts and every place we dined the chef came out and explained what I could and couldn't have.

Something fun to do is Hoop de do review. I know you have one table service left, but maybe pay out of pocket for one of your other meals and since it is a non park day, you can take some time exploring at Fort Wilderness.

I don't know how picky the kids are but it is fried chicken and ribs...pretty good too.

OP, if I were you, I'd choose based on where we'd want to be the that evening.

Want to see Wishes from the beach of the GF? The GF Cafe is which to pick. Want to see the high fireworks from Illuminations? And hang out at the Boardwalk? Go with Cape May.

I've eaten both places, and the food and atmosphere were great in both. As I'm sure you know, CMC is a buffet, and GFC is ala carte so that's another thing to consider.

Have a magical trip! pixiedust:

We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe last year and it was the best meal of the trip, BY FAR! They have their own butcher and the steak was A....MAZING! As was everything else. The service was perfection, the meal was divine, and the desserts were heavenly. We will FOR SURE be back next trip, it's a new "Must DO"!

We go to Chef Mickey for Dinner. Alot of people love this place for Breakfast, but I actually hate the breakfast fare at CM. BUT the dinner menu is different. The buffet has just about anything you can think of. For my pickey DS he usually eats, mac & cheese, pizza, chicken tenders, and the Mickey Cheese ravioli and marinarra. There is also fried chicken, ham, prime rib, and daily soups like chicken and rice and beef barley. Those are basics and definetly noy exotic in any way. Of course you can also get steak and bbq ribs. Plus you get to see Mickey! Chef Mickey in my opinion highly recommended for dinner, not so much for breakfast!

I already posted my suggestions but forgot about Trails End Restaurant at Ft Wilderness. If you have pickey eaters you can get traditional burgers and stuff for lunch, but the dinner buffet has pizza and fried chicken along with other things that many like.

We had a wonderful dinner at Cape May! The children's section had chicken nuggets & yummy mac n cheese. The other sections had an awesome variety & really tasty desserts. My faves were: lobster tortelini, bbq ribs (might seem random, but sooooo good), pesto mashed potatoes, snow crab legs, & steamed mussels in a bucket. The dessert variety was great with lots of mini-sized desserts, so you can try a few of them. The night we were there, they had mini warm molten chocolate lava cakes & they were outstanding!

Another vote for Cape May!! :thumbsup2

My kids are picky as well so I had to look at the menus at the different places. There are alot of places that my youngest would not eat at because they had nothing that she would enjoy. We like Wispering Canyon, they have a good assortment, steak and chicken, among other things, so she was pacified. She actually does like crab legs so we are doing a night at Cape May, I made a ressie for Grand Flroidian Cafe this trip we have never eaten there but I picked it because it has things that she will eat. We were gonna eat at Crystal Palace again this year, but we did that last trip and it gets expensive for 5 people for a character meal, and all the character meals in my opinion just have so so food.
