Hello! New to DIS boards and trying to decide where we want to stay for our Thanksgiving 2008 trip. I've looked at moderate and value resorts---looking for some insight to make a decision. DH and I are used to staying at nice hotels whenever we travel. We have never stayed on property. Looking for suggestions....thanks in advance!

First of all :welcome:

We are going at the same time as you. If you are used to staying at nicer hotels, the values might not be to your liking. Not that I'm knocking the values or anything (we are staying at Pop on our trip) but they are small rooms and not very many amenities if that is what you are use to. Have you looked at the pictures on the wdwinfo site? There's a ton of them of the hotels themselves and inside the rooms too. Also, are you going to spend alot of time at the hotel? If you are, you might want to go for a moderate. When we go, we don't spend very much time in the room (out at the parks, swimming, etc.)

The values can get really crowded and noisy. The colors are bright and they all have larger than life icons. To me, it's Disney but then I also have 4 kids. The moderates are more laid back and relaxing in my opinion.

You could stay at either the Swan or Dolphin. They're not WDW onsite hotels but they are onsite. They are deluxe and if you're a teacher, nurse, etc, you can get a room for about the same amount of money as a WDW moderate.

If you decide to choose a mod, then I'd go with CSR-the grounds are gorgeous and the staff is wonderful. It's really what many call deluxe lite.

Thanks for the replies!

I have been doing a lot of reading and am leaning towards Port Orleans Riverside. I am all about quiet and peaceful during downtime. I've read mixed reviews about CSR. I am a teacher--might check into the Swan or Dolphin--do you get all of the onsite perks staying there?

We have stayed at the POR for the last 2 years. It is such a beautiful resort with its lush landscaping. We usually get a room by a quiet pool and during the day, it is like its our own private pool. Soooo relaxing!

Port Orleans Riverside is a good resort, and so is it's *much* smaller sister resort, Port Orleans French Quarter. Both resorts are quiet, and laid back.

The Swan and Dolphin, while on Disney property, are not owned by Disney, thus you don't get some of the onsite perks like the Dining Plan and Magic Express, but Extra Magic Hours are still included.

Make sure to check out this website for more info! :thumbsup2
