Our family ( my wife and 8 year old son) are going back to disney world In NOVEMBER.We are going for 9 days/ 8 nights. We wanted to stay at the polynesian, to experience a top resort. We also know that 8 nights there can be expensive.
Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about dividing the time between a deluxe resort, and a moderate resort ( port orleans). We are not sure if it is worth picking up and moving ( our son is no problem)Or just make the visit less days to compensate for the cost.

Any suggestions?

TIA

We've split the stay before when we've been on longer trips. We plan on no parks on the day we change resorts. Sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast, pack up and check out, then check in to the other resort. We've found that when you are changin resorts they tend to try to get you in to a room asap. Also if you tell the resort you're leaving that you're moving to another resort they will give you a later checkout if at all possible.

I'd plan on the moderate first, then the deluxe, I'd find it very hard to downgrade.

By all means split your stay. My suggestion would be to stay at a moderate first, then switch to the Poly. I stayed at Por first then switched to the AKL for the last 3 days (all I could afford) and it was great. You could move over to the Poly early, and leave your luggage there and hit the parks. If you are lucky your room will be ready, and you can settle in. Otherwise, when you come back from the parks your room should be ready and you can call bell services to bring your luggae up.

We have switched resorts before.

What we do is check out & tell bell services we are moving resorts. They will move your luggage for you, though it will take some time to get your luggage to the new hotel.

Then we would go to the parks & enjoy the day. At the end of the day we check into our new resort & our luggage is already there.

We love the Port Orleans French Quarter. It is a great choice for a moderate.

Switching resorts at Disney is really a breeze.

Just to give you an idea on costs I got a quote for 7 nights at Poly for $2482, this is regular season with AAA discount. By changing my quote to the next day which was the start of value season and doing 3 nights at a mod (CSR) and 4 at the Poly it brought the quote down to $1502 (still got AAA discount). To me the savings is definately worth it to split the stay and do half mod half deluxe for our vacation.

From everything I've read switching is very easy. We're planning to check out and have them transfer our luggage while we go to the parks then just check into the new resort when we're done for the day (or hop over there mid day to check in).
