Resort Problem, Too Many Guests!

I think she may be feeling really badly because she invited this child in the first place. Although I'm a little confused as to how they would have fit her in the first place, as the OP stated making the reservation first and then inviting her. Maybe that was just a typo or the OP offered the space in the 2nd room to someone else afterwards. Anyway, now all of a sudden the child can make it and they either no longer have the budget for her or can't find accomodations (there's also a week long cruise involved with 35 other friends/family, but I believe they have that expense covered). I think there are many layers to this story that we just aren't aware of and that makes it hard to say whether or not she should feel obliged to follow through on her invitation. I agree that they probably shouldn't be expected to change their plans, but if this child thought she was going, that's a tough one. I asked about the adults pooling money, but it didn't sound like that was an option. My thoughts were, if they could give up the DDP or if they curb some of the cruise expenses, that may free up enough money.

Hopefully the OP will come back and let us know how it all ended up.

Sorry guys, I appreciate all your advice, I have just been working today. I orginally was going to do three rooms with the discount but then my niece was not going so there was no need for the third room, so we only did two. Then just the other day my sister decided that she is able to come and disney no longer has the discounted rooms available. I am not able to curb any of the cruise stuff as that is not refundable now and there actually is no way to really make that any cheaper. As you are aware I am sure, third and fourth passengers and so on are 451.66 regardless of age. It is not at all possible for my parents to chip in with money. I have talked to my sister about putting in money to help and she is going to see what she can do. I have looked into getting a spot at the Fort Wilderness Camp ground like someone said and also at some of the DTD hotels and other off site hotels as that may be my only option if I want to take her. Also I have checked out the vacation rental boards on here. I am doing everything I can to d the cheapest way to do it but I need to also make sure that my kids don't end up feeling cheated out of their vacation.
I hope this makes sense to everyone.:confused3

Unfortunately, I think most of us have been in a similar situation at one time or another. I just mentioned the cruise expense, because typically there are things that are not included in the $451 per person charge, like drinks, gambling, excursions, etc. If all the adults are related to this little girl, it may not be a hardship on any 1 person, if everybody takes $100 from their cruise budget for "extras" and donates that to a room only at the AllStars. Assuming 5 or 6 families and the room is $99 per night, that gets you pretty close. Then if the mom can chip in for her daughters food and tickets, you'd be all set. Again, I'm just under the assumption that you are all family, but that may not be the case.

It looks like you've come close to exhausting all options. I'm sorry it might not work out, but you tried your very best  . If she can't go this time, it's a good excuse to plan a future trip.

I'm so sorry you are so stressing about this. I think you are being way too hard on yourself. You can only do what you can do. It is the PARENTS' job to take THEIR kid to Disney--not yours, and only if they choose to do so.

I am going to admit I am biased as we scrimped and scraped and saved to take our nieces and nephews, 3 of them, 4 years ago. The parents did not even help with spending money--and they could have. The trip was something of a disaster. The kids were more interested in the hotel and the pool than the parks. The parents never even wrote us a quick "thank you" note, and we never heard from the kids again. I'm serious.

Maybe I'm up there with the Disney Villans, but I would sit down with the parents and tell them that you trip was originally planned for "x" people, and that is what you budgeted for. You are willing to take the child and you will pay $$ toward the trip, but you do not have the balance of $$$.

In the mean time, KEEP CALLING. CMs have told me to call 7:30 a.m. EST on Mondays as that is when the Magical Gathering and group ressies cancellations go into the system.

I agree with other posters that you really don't want 5 people in a value room, ESPECIALLY if the kids are small. While it seems unfair, this occupancy was determined by the fire marshall--not Disney and it is a safety feature.

I agree with this. In fact, I think it's ridiculous that your niece's parents would expect you to come up with all the money.:confused3 . I would tell them that since they initially refused your offer to take her, you booked for just a certain number....and if they want their daughter to come, then they need to pay for the upgrade.

Good luck, no matter what happens. Im keepin' my fingers crossed for a good outcome for you.

Just a heads up so you aren't using your time on options that most likely won't work out - We rented points for VWL back in March for a stay in October. At that time, almost everything was booked except SSR. We came up with only one 5 day block, which is the first week of October, that worked at VWL. The day before we check in at VWL, we are staying at the Doubletree Resort in DTD. We got a great rate and the rooms are suites. Might be an option for you. Hopefully something works out for you soon.

Just wanted to let everyone know that today the problem has been offically solved. Somehow Disney now has more room at POR with the discount so we were able to get a room there that fits 5 people, now we are staying at two different resorts but at least everyone is going and everyone is staying at Disney  :cheer2:

I am so happy for you that everything worked out. :goodvibes It sounds like it was very important to you to include your niece, and I am glad you were able to without having to reconfigure your own vacation too much!

I am so happy for you. You are a great aunt for taking your niece. Have a great vacation. :)

So glad it all worked out, it's a great thing you're doing.... hope the Disney dream squad is extra nice to you :wizard: .

I'm glad that everything worked out well for you and your family! I hope you have a wonderful trip :wizard:

The kids will love the pools at the POR there's a neat kid one at the RIverside and a fun one with a dragon slide at the French QUarter! Glad things worked out for you.

Did you ever consider renting a vacation home, they are incredible!! We went with a bunch of family 13 people and rented in Windsor Palms, WOW, wonderful. AND it was cheaper than onsite! The homes are absolutely incredible. :thumbsup2
PS I see you did get POR, thats great, we love it there.

:cool1: Yep you'll love it at POR -

glad it worked out!! :wizard: love that you posted an update!!

More pixiedust: coming!! :wizard:

I went from a value to a moderate...ASMo to POR for 88 dollars total for eight days on the dining plan...the code is on the DisneyWorld.com site with the two cute little boys peeking out of the tea cup. Plus I got it in the mail. Good luck.:thumbsup2

Your niece should stay with your mom and dad. That will be fine with the resort, if she is properly added to the reservation. Also, once you add her to your ressie, you guys can smash into any room you want. Disney just wants to make sure everything is done to their specs. Have fun!!

Glad it worked out for you! You getting a room at the PoR just proves it...

If at first you don't get the resort you want at the price you want...try and try again :)

Take care
