We are going for 7 nights, 2nd week in Dec...we would love to stay at AKL, but the $199/night is a bit high for us, especially since we are only there to sleep. I have seen posts where people are getting rates for a lot less than the listed price...$129. Are these prices only available on Mousesavers when they decide to do a state special or something...or will AKL ever come up with a discount on it's own without a person having to hope for a postcard or Mousesavers to pick their state and time frame for travel. Is the $199 set in stone, or can I hope for a miracle in that the prices may drop? Do we have a chance at getting lower than $199?

Mousesavers.com tries to post all of the deals that are out there. Prices are never set in stone, depending on who you book your vacation through. We also do a room only ressie and have APs and book through CRO, this way if you have your mind set on particular dates and have to have those dates you can book them as soon as you know them and if a special comes along you can always get credited for the difference.

There is probably still a good chance that they will be running specials in December before the holidays, I think right now the latest special goes somewhere into October. There are usually some type of specials for early December. But, I would recommend booking at the current lowest rate now because when the specials do come out they tend to sell out certain dates quickly.

Specials are determined by all kinds of factors, you don't necessarily have to receive a postcard. There are DC specials, AP specials and sometimes specials to residents of particular states but Mousesavers.com tries to list all of these. They are just a VERY informative website that list all of the discounts that are available, you don't actually book through them.

I just learned about all the discounts and codes over the past year or so and Ive been staying at disney at least once a year for about 7 years. Ive come to find out that there are people who have never paid full price for a disney resort and it does seem that there are usually some type of discounts out there. My advice is to check mousesavers every other day or so because if something comes out, it will be posted there. Thats what I did for my trip this spring to wilderness lodge and my trip in 2 weeks also to the wilderness lodge. Also, theres more than one type of discount that can come out. It can be an annual pass discount, disney club discount, there are codes that come out every now and then. Just keep checking. Something is bound to pop up

I've been to WDW 7 times non-DVC and never paid full price. I got either a MKC discount (20%), CM discount with TDS friends (once, 50% off) or on our first 2 trips we did special packages (one was $250 in DD, one was fall fantasy in 1996 which was heavily discounted). I have one night reserved at CBR for Dec 6, got a 20% Disney Club Discount, then we check into BWV for 6 nights with DVC points. I'm still looking for a better AP or code discount for that night.

I'm always happy for Disney when someone pays rack rate but it sure isn't going to be me and it doesn't have to be you either. There is some sort of discount available for most times of year, and if you reserve early enough you can generally get 20% or more off rack rate.

Incidentally DC is "Disney Club" and I think it worth joining. Although many of the discounts it offers can be obtained in other ways, it still more than pays for itself.

Mousesavers now has a notification service for the WDW resorts page that you can subscribe to. So you don't really need to check it every other day!

Reading this, I have the feeling you may think Mousesavers has something got do with "picking" the sale. Mousesavers is just a reporting area (thanks Mary, you do a GREAT job) owned by a person just like you and me. When someone or Mary, find out about a special, they tell Mary, and she posts it to try and save as many people as possible some money. Some people get postcards, which is direct from Disney, as they do their marketing. Some local places have codes in newspapers, which is only good in their areas, again put in the paper by Disney. Still others are codes in "specialty" magazines, like the time the one came out in the Spanish magazine (which we saw on Mousesavers and used)....although it was good for everyone, no matter your race, since I don't subscribe to a Spanish magazine, I was grateful someone took the time to give the code to Mary.
Disney Club codes are reported on Mary's site, to make you aware..if it saves you enough money, you might want to join the DC and save!
