Resort Pool Hours

Was over at YC/BC last evening for dinner and noticed something for the second time in the last several weeks.

The pool hours were 10 to 8. I'm sure these reduced hours are to save labor costs for life guards. But I was a little surprised by this.

Is this typical at all the resorts at slow times? How far are the hours extended during busy times?

And what I'm most interested in - Aren't you resort stayers/payers a little annoyed by this?

I've honestly never seen hours this short anywhere I've traveled, and know that I'd be severely torqued if I faced this. I think if I came back from a park as early as 8pm, I'd expect to be able to go for a swim.

Yc and BC both have quite pools that are open 24 hours (as do most of the Disney hotels). Storm-A-Long Bay does tend to have shorter hours this time of year and from my experience (having worked at BC, WL, CSR and OKW) it is the only one where they will actually ask you to leave if you are in the main pool after the posted hours. WL and CSR "usually" did not and OKW would not as long as you were not being loud (or trying to use the slide).

Since SAB is basically a small water park, the hours reflect what the lifeguards work. They also have to have time in the mornings to clean it and groom the sand areas.

There are quiet pools with longer hours at the YC/BC.

As to being annoyed by this. No, there is plenty to do and we would never want to swim before 10am or later than 8pm anyway.

The latest I have ever seen SAB open is 10pm.

I have read that most quiet pools have extended hours over the main themed pools in the resorts. Of course, there are no lifeguards, so you swim at your own risk.

I have stayed at YC many times (10 trips) over the last 8 years. Our trips are usually in the winter (Feb - Marcch) and I don't recall SAB ever being open past 8 during that time of year. We did one trip in August where SAB was open until 10, but that is the only time I have seen that.

I wonder if the early closing has to do with lighting and visibility. It is a very large area and would be difficult to guard well in the dark.

I have not stayed (unfortunatly) at the Beach Club yet!!

But this past August my family stayed at Coronado Springs and what I found to be quite odd was at like midnight after a long day at the park and EMH as well we went to the quiet pool by our room to cool off before going to bed.

A very nice security guard drove by on his little golf cart and very nicely said that the quiet pools are closed at 10pm the big pool he said still might be open and even offered to drive us over. We were too tired to go all the way over there.

But I was very surprised that we were not allowed to go in after 10pm. Every night it happened though, the security guard would drive up and tell the people they had to get out.

I was a bit put off and always thought they were open 24 hours. :confused3

If you are quiet, they usually don't care if you go for a night swim. They just wouldn't want people having a nightly party in there every night, disturbing the guests. I also believe the quiet pools are open 24/7, I've never been bothered there after 11/12 p.m./a.m.

The POP computer pool had longer hours than you all are mentioning. It had lifeguards until 10pm and was open until 12am. I'm not sure when it opened in the morning (we only swam in the evenings) but it was definitely open late. We were there in early August, not sure if that makes a difference either.
