Resort POOL hopping?

How do you know for sure they were not staying there? I'm asking this for the sake of the people who are questioning how I knew the guy was staying at the GF because I am sure they have the same question for you but have not gotten around to asking yet.

They brought all of their stuff with them from MK (we came back at the same time) set up on the beach for a few hours, then went to the pool for a few hours, (our balcony was right above where they were camped out on the beach), packed up their stuff and headed back to the ferry to MK.

We've used the POLY pool for an afternoon MK break, but we are "legal hoppers" and always show our DVC card at concierge first for access.

In regards to guests of Fort Wilderness using the WL pool:

We stayed at FW in January, and according to the map and resort info, it lists the WL pool as an accessible pool for FW guests. In fact it lists all of WL amenities as being usable to FW guests. And the same goes for WL guests, all FW amenities are accessible for them.
The FW resort map shows WL lodge in it's entirety.

Actually that isn't the case if you ask at check in you will be informed that the pools at WL are off limits to Fw guests yes you can go over to the resort and use the grounds and teh eateries etc but not the pools or the gym those are for WL guests only. The pool is only accessible to WL guests and DVC members staying at a DVC resort on POINTS not DVC members staying elsewhere on a cash ressie they must be staying in a DVC resort on points or they to lose the pool hopping privelege.

I've only seen CM check resort id cards at Beach/Yacht Club Hotels. Most "Pool Hoppers" won't get caught.

I have seen them checked at OKW and also at BW and SSR so it does happen especially at the DVC resorts. I have also seen some very unpleasent and unruly people when they were asked to vacate the pool I also saw some very uninformed embarassed families.

What I don't understand is this....... Why does every post about pool hopping turn into a fight?

Because people are incapable of just saying, "No, it is not allowed at most WDW resorts."

Sounds like a reasonable conclusion to me. I just don't understand why I had two posters who wanted to know how I knew people were staying at GF, but no one questioned your judgment. :confused3

Same here! We've done this in the past just to check out what the other resorts have to offer. :thumbsup2

Our choice to stay at BC was solely based on the kids being able to use SAB. I agree with the no-pool hopping rule there because as BC guests, we sure paid a premium for the privilege of using that pool.

Maybe one day Disney will allow a certain number of wristbands to be available for non-resort guests each day...and that you could pay for the band to get use of the pool for the day. Then again, that may cause more problems than it solves.

It used to be - YEARS AGO - I'm really dating myself! - that you could pool hop. We stayed at Fort Wilderness in 1976 (I was a teenager!) and we used the Contemporary's pool one day and the Polynesian's pool and beach for two days. It was one of the advertised perks of staying "onsite". We had to carry a card to show that we were guests of WDW. Of course, those were the only three resorts at the time, other than the hotels in "Lake Buena Vista" - now known as Downtown Disney! My, how the place as grown! :cool2:

There is a sign at each pool entrance that says that pool is exclusively for guests staying at that resort.

When there were only the Contemporary, Polynesian and the one that is now called Shades of Green (can't remember the old name, but it is now only for military) you could pool hop. I think that pool hopping stopped when CBR was built. It's possible that guests of the deluxe resorts could still hop for a while, but we stayed at CBR the year it was built and I'm almost positive you could not pool hop from there.

I'm as dated as you! :rotfl: We don't pool hop, but I know it changed over the years with the new resorts coming into Disney.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think a lot of folks still think pool hopping is okay because they didn't realize the rules changed or they knew and didn't care and just have managed to get away with it so far. Oh well...in the end, folks will do what they want anyway...rules or no rules. :sad2:

We are out having fun most of the time at the parks and by the time we are ready to get in the pool we want it close to the room and then off to bed. It just sounds exhausting chase a pool dream.

My family and I do not pool hop.. but I was so surprised when a life guard at the WL.. was trying to get my husband and I to take our daughter to the Contemporary pool.. she said it was better... I told her I don't think that is alloud.. she said oh yea.. its fine.. only pool its a rule at is Storm along Bay... I told her you know.. people stay at a deluxe to get those extras.. they don't need people coming along that don't pay at all to stay there.. its just not right....

We were at the Poly last week and saw a dripping family walking through the lobby to get on the monorail. The only reason I could think that they would be doing that would be to pool-hop.

I think this is exactly right. They used to tout the idea of taking a break and going swimming....it WAS considered a perk in the old days.

I know when we stayed at Fort Wilderness back in the 70s and early 80s we used to swim in the Contemporary Pool with no problem.

That is what I saw, and then they got off at the Grand Floridian and Dad said they would be going straight back to the room to get ready for dinner. Somehow, though, I don't think pool hoppers paying that much a night would cause the same outrage as people staying at the AllStars.

Saying "I'm not paying $300 dollars a night to stay at the Poly so someone paying $400 a night at the GF can swim in my pool" just doesn't have the same feel does it?

lol, you're right!

I would be very peed of if I found myself sitting next to poolhoppers when we visit the WL.

I pay to stay the the WL - for the WL amenities.

Why should someone else think they have the right to sneak by, plonk themselves down using the beds and crowd up the pool? If they want the WL amenities then STAY there.

The poolhopping rules are sensible and there for a reason. You get what you pay for and when making your reservation you choose the resort you stay in and enjoy THOSE amenities.

Couldnt give a monkeys whether the pool hoppers were from values or mods, or deluxes ..... they just shouldnt be there.

It should be very simple to eliminate this either by doing what all-inclusive resorts do which is wear a simple wristband colour coded for each resort or else different colour towels for each resort, towels are handed over on presentation of your key and the lifeguard should be checking hourly for people with different towels .... therefore not resort guests - and chuck them out.

A word of advise to pool hoppers:

Don't mention that you are going to do it. Some people on these boards get a little crazy!

I don't let the actions of other individuals affect or effect my vacation. I just don't understand why people get so crazy over this topic.
