Resort POOL hopping?

We resort hop and look at the pools and what they have to offer, but thats it. We figure that is the best way that we can see where else we would like to stay when we outgrow our beloved POP.

Same here! We've done this in the past just to check out what the other resorts have to offer. :thumbsup2

Our choice to stay at BC was solely based on the kids being able to use SAB. I agree with the no-pool hopping rule there because as BC guests, we sure paid a premium for the privilege of using that pool.

Maybe one day Disney will allow a certain number of wristbands to be available for non-resort guests each day...and that you could pay for the band to get use of the pool for the day. Then again, that may cause more problems than it solves.

what i dont get is obviously this pool hopping thing is starting to become an issue obviously every pool at wdw cant be like yacht and beach w/the sand bottom and lazy river but i dont see why the other resorts w/o a slide and hot tub cant be added to the moderates and at least 3 or the 6 pools at the value AS. I could be wrong but isnt that why ppl pool hop besides the fact that they are close to a resort and want a break? Perhaps if the pools added those features they would not have 1/2 the problem and then it would be fair to all resort guests, obviously at a deluxe you are paying for the lobby, pool, water crafts access, location, and room size, but if they refined the pools at a value we might be more willing to stay there and get 2 rooms instead of one at a deluxe. Of course you could always just have CMs watch the pools and issue bracelets like at Y&B, perhaps the CMs dont know this is such a big issue as us Disers who have experienced it first hand. Worse comes to worse, make the pool areas gated so a guest who is only staying at the resort and or villa can use their room key to scan in. Perhaps in the future that is what it will come down to.

It costs money to add and maintain amenities. If you add these things, you'll have to charge guests more money--oh I can hear the outrage now! And they STILL aren't going to want to take the time to go back to their distant hotels when the deluxe resorts are a quick boat or bike ride away.

They pretty much need a reason to charge people an extra $50 a night for a moderate or $150 a night for a Deluxe (or whatever it is). One of the big differences between a Value and a Moderate is the pool slide. The pool difference between mods and deluxes aren't as big (except Y&BC) - its other things (location, interior halls) that make that leap.

I could be wrong, but I have very vivid memories of pool hopping being an option for all WDW guests as recently as '94. I also remember having pool reciprocity between Fort Wilderness and the Wilderness Lodge back in the River Country days!

We were there May 1 - May 4 and they did not check ID. Be warned the last three times we were there the pool was open till 10pm. This time it closed at 8pm! we had to rearrange our schedule to uses the pool. Very disappointed. The pool is very nice. But if can't be open even an hour after the parks close what good is it? I know a lot of folks use it in the afternoon but we are usually busy and about. We were also invited over to the wilderness club on May 5th and they did not check ID's either.

I wish they the bracelets at WL, I know a lot of drama goes on on the boards about pool hopping, but i wish at the deluxe resorts they were gated or were checked as you entered because how is it fair that I am paying 300+ a night and someone from say a value( not in any way putting a value guest down) comes and tries to use the pool and takes up pool chairs for someone that is an actual guest of that resort. I say if someone from another resort wishes to use the pool should have to pay a fee to use the pool, I read on another board that Poly has a lot of pool hopping problems as well...oh well i guess not all of WDW can be happy lol.

I agree! Why should I pay $350 a night and not be able to get a chair because of someone who stays else where feels entitled to pool hop. They need wristbands at some of the deluxe pools. It's not fair to there guests who can't get pool chairs or have to swim in a very crowded pool.

Funny you should mention value-staying guests. I know that is the first thought that comes into people's minds, but the only pool-hopping I ever witnessed personally, was when this guy got on the monorail at the Poly with his two kids who were in swimsuits and dripping wet and they got off at the GF. It's a lot easier for the monorail guests to pool hop then for someone coming from Pop Century.
It is morally as reprehensible when someone paying $350 a night pool-hops at the $300 a night pool?

I'm not the PP you quoted but in my post I said any other resort. I have seen people from the Contemporary at the Poly pool. Swim where you stay is my point. ANd how do you know what type of room they are staying in at GF? Maybe they are spending $800 for a suite in Concierge. The point is only resorts guests should have use of their pool. I have seen people walk from TTC go to the Poly pool with all floats on and clothes for changing. Found out later they were locals pool hopping.

I don't know what room they were staying in, but in general the GF is pricier than the Poly, is it not?

My point is that it is wrong to pool hop. AND it is wrong to suggest that it is people staying at cheaper places that are breaking the rules. It reeks of classicism to me.

BTW, I don't think pool-hopping is wrong; only the breaking of the hotel's policies/rules. I have no moral problem with staying at the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal (Universal resorts allow pool-hopping) and going over to the Portifino, which costs more, for a swim. I also do not have a problem with people staying at the Royal Pacific, which costs less than Hard Rock, coming over for a swim because the RPR has no pool slide. JMHO.

In regards to guests of Fort Wilderness using the WL pool:

We stayed at FW in January, and according to the map and resort info, it lists the WL pool as an accessible pool for FW guests. In fact it lists all of WL amenities as being usable to FW guests. And the same goes for WL guests, all FW amenities are accessible for them.
The FW resort map shows WL lodge in it's entirety.

the thing is you don't even know if they were staying at GF. They might be staying off site, in a value or live in the area and were hopping from one deluxe pool to the other.

I don't think anyone was saying that only those staying in cheaper places would break the rules. I think the point is there just wouldn't be much of a reason for someone at the poly to want to pool hop over to the all stars

When we were at the Poly a group of local teenagers came over from MK to swim for a few hours, got back on the boat to MK and never saw them again. I think that probably happens a lot, more of a problem than other resort guests.

The man told his kids before, they got off at the GF, "we're going straight back to the room and getting dressed for dinner." You be the judge.

No, they did not say it is only those staying at cheaper places, but they are the only ones being used as an example as the type of people who would do such a thing.

The point is if the rules say the pool is for resort guests only, then people should abided by those rules whether they spend $450 a night at the GF or $99 a night at All Stars.

How do you know for sure they were not staying there? I'm asking this for the sake of the people who are questioning how I knew the guy was staying at the GF because I am sure they have the same question for you but have not gotten around to asking yet.

Well pool hopping is allowed at Universal but not at Disney. If someone is staying at Poly lagoon view concierge than they are spending more than someone staying garden view at GF. But pool hopping is wrong because the pools at each resort are made to hold a certain capacity of guests. If you are pool hopping and not a DVC then your classless anyway. I don't care what you can afford. I'm not the one who said people at cheaper places break the rules in the first place. Seems like lots of pople feel they are entitled and break rules.

I have also seen this on vacation at the Poly. It was 3 teen/ college age girls and they even made sure to take up 3 chairs at the pool. So many guests could not find chairs that afternoon. I happened to be sitting right next to them or would have thought they might be staying there. But no they were day trippers from MK.

Are you talking to me personally, as in I'm classless? I clearly said breaking the rules is wrong, no matter who does and what their reason is.

But the attitude expressed here is why I prefer to spend my money at Universal resorts.

With the exception of SAB, I actually think the mods have better pools than the deluxes. We're DVC members, and I've either stayed in or pool-hopped to almost all the deluxe & DVC pools and I actually think CSR and POR have as good or better themed pools!

Man, I can't believe I'm even putting myself in the middle of this, but here goes.......

NO, the pp did not call you classless. The poster said IF you are pool hopping, THEN you are classless. You have made it very clear that you do NOT pool hop at WDW because it is not allowed. The pp is also agreeing with you that it isn't just people who are staying at the values that are invading the pools, but that it is often locals who are at WDW for the day. The pp is also agreeing that pool hopping is wrong regardless of what you paid -- whether it be more or less than the pool you are hopping to.

What I don't understand is this....... Why does every post about pool hopping turn into a fight? I really just don't get it. I guess I'm just not that passionate about the whole thing. I use the pool in the resort where I'm staying. It is just more convienent than going to a different hotel. The only exception was when the pool at ASMo was being redone.
