Resort Mugs

for us its a great value my dh can drink 6 to 8 cans a day plus coffee. yes he is a little hyped up on caffine.:thumbsup2 I tease him if he quit we could use that money to go to disney more often

There will come a day where like blizzard beach, you get have to scan your barcode in to get a drink. No soda is dispensed until you flash the mug's barcode over the reader.

Now I've seen people using their old mug when the YOMD Mugs are available at POFQ and the CMs didn't say anything.

and that makes it easy to split drinks there. I do have mugs without limit printing on them, and I will bring them back. But during the course of a day, they still manage to get plenty of drink money from me, so I'm not really worried about it.

I personally doubt that will ever happen. If my memory is correct Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon started this bar code thing on their mugs back in June 2002, because I remember reading about it on the Orlando Sentinal website. I think they also said it might or might not happen at the Resorts, well as we all know it never happened for some unknown reasons. My feeling is it's way to late to even try this system again at the Resorts because it's been 5 years since the bar code stickers were announced at the water parks, so I don't see WDW doing this because of the huge time gap.

A few questions...

Not sure, but are these mugs included in the Magic Your Way packages this year? I thought I read something about each person getting one.. but I may be way off here.

If they're not included, and we purchase our own, do you think it would be worth it to get one even if I'm on the dining plan? Because every time I get a meal, my drink is included anyway.

Also, are the resorts the only places we are allowed to refill them? Can we only refill at the resort where we're staying?

The Resorts are the only locations you can fill them up at and yes you can use you're mug at the other ones and not just where you purchased it.

The only Resorts where they can't be used is the Contemporary because the Food & Fun Center is closed and the Tempo Grab & Go is not selling any mugs. The other location is Coronado Springs because the food area's are not owned by WDW and they are the only Resort not to sell the YOAMD mugs, instead they are still selling the CSR mugs.

However, as has been posted here in the past, the mugs are only good for the stay that you purchased them. Read the posted signs or read it right on the mugs....

Here is a photo of a refillable mug sign that was taken at Pop a couple of years ago.

I think that depends on how many time you can refill it and how many drinks you have per mug. If you avg 2 drinks per day for 5 days that would be 10 drinks at 1.99 each. Some guests have 2 drinks per meals (lunch/dinner).

$19.99 for 10 drinks - 2 drinks per day
$39.80 for 20 drinks - 4 drinks per day

Either way it pays for itself in no time.

The mug saved me about $40 during my 7-day trip last month. I did use it more at POFQ than I did at WL, primarily because the food court at POFQ was on the way to and from the bus stop/parking lot & the resort is small enough that it's not a major pain to get from the room to the food court for a refill. I'll definitely buy one again for my 9-day trip in May & see how it works out for me at BCV and BWV.

I think it depends on how long you spend at resort. Honestly I always rent a car because parking at parks and resort is free. So I buy sodas juices etc and keep it in room fridge if no in room fridge I buy a cheap cooler and when its hot we even bring it with us in car so we have beverages on way to park as well as when we get out. I buy enough drinks while in parks to say its not worth me tossing more money on cups that require me to walk to the food court as well as only can be used at that food court. Id rather drink bottled water anyhow. But thats just me.

Yes, they have lids, with an open and close lever type top (like a coffee cup). I think someone said they hold 14 ounces, I am not 100% sure, I never measured mine. They are insulated. I never got coffee, only iced tea or soda, but they did keep it cold for awhile!

Co-worker just got back last week and she had the mug at work today...we tried it and it held one can of pop....with a little ice...was kind of disappointed in the size only because our last trip was in 2004 and we could get 32 ounce mugs for $10 that were refillable.....
Oh well...I am sure we will still get some when we arrive 12/4 because I can't survive without my caffeine in the morning!!!!

I bought the mugs at CBR last week and the CM told me that I could only use them at CBR. I told her that I had heard differently and she said that the CM's at the other resorts would not say anything if we brought them in to use. :confused3 I don't know still if you can use them at any resort other than the one you stay at.

The mugs paid for themselves though. I am an early riser do I would take my mug and my book down to the food court and have coffee while waiting for the others to wake up. My SIL took them back int eh evening for soft drinks.

I was wondering if the mug design or color for YOAMD will change
for this next year or it will remain the same?

There is a date on it, I'm sure that will change.

I know we have to wait to see but I'm sure I'm not the
only one wondering this.

I'm interested in seeing what these look like. If nothing else, they will be a nice suvonier and if you use it at home too the money didn't completely go to waste.

We bought ours last Thursday at the $12.49 plus tax price. I'm thinking it was an good deal for us overall, because DS and I used ours 2 or 3 times a day over 5 days, the girls maybe once a day. I like having the mug as a souvenir, but the best part of the deal is that if we just wanted a drink and not food -- which, after eating lunch once at the ASMU food court, was almost always the case -- with the refillable mug we didn't have to take the time to stand in line with everyone else to pay!!!:cool1:

My guess is as long as the YOAMD is going on, the design and colour of the mug will not change because WDW will want to keep the same ones. The only things that are not the same with the YOAMD mugs is the lids because they have different colours for them. I think they are Blue and Silver, however I am not sure if there are any more different colour lids for them?

For DISers who have never purchased a refillable mug before, or if someone has not yet had the chance to purchase the Year of a Million Dreams mug, here are some photos of mine.

Thanks for the pictures, that really helps to get a better idea on what to expect. I think if we get them we will just purchase 2; 1 for my parents and 1 for our little family to use.
