My family of four (DH, DS16, DD13) will be staying at Pop for three nights over Labor Day weekend. On our past trips, we have always purchased the refillable mugs. I'm wondering if it will be worth it this trip, though. As we will be driving (for the first time!), I'm thinking about taking a small coffee maker, so DH and I wouldn't necessarily need the resort mugs for our morning coffee. As we will be doing free dining, any meals purchased at the Pop food court will include a beverage. With these factors in mind, do you think the cost of four mugs would be justified? I'm trying to make this trip as low cost as possible and am thinking that we might not miss the mugs this time all things considered. What do you think?

Do you think you will use your snack credits for extra drinks?? If not why no just get 2 and share? We had the dining back in 06 and I just purchased 1 mug.

Hi. By bringin the coffee maker that will spare your need to get coffee like you said, i have never bought the mugs since we just wake up and go to the parks and then get in really late. For our drinks at the resort we pack as many bottle of water as we can fit in the suitcase and then get ice from the free ice machine at POP at then get them chilly for us.

This trip we are getting them since they're included w/ the deluxe plan and i am wondering when we'd actually use them, it would have to be an extra trip to and from the main building, maybe we'd do that a couple of times but i dont think we'll get our money's worth.

If you're trying to save money, dont get the mugs, it really adds up when buying per person. I say pack your resort drinks like we do -or yes get them when you buy your meals.

I had forgotten that since we are driving we can bring a cooler as well for drinks in the room. Its beginning to make more sense not to get the mugs this trip. If it were a longer trip, I'm sure we would, but since we're only going to be there for 3 nights, most of our time will be spent in the parks anyway. I think this is one area where we can easily save a little money.

We bought 4 of the mugs this past trip. It was worth it for my DS17, because when we were at the resort he would be out and about and used his quite a bit. It was not worth it for the rest of us. We just didn't walk to the main building that often other than catching the bus, and we didn't want to tote the cups around the parks.

I'd say buy them as you need them. As for worth, they make wonderful, useful souvenirs - I get comments on my mugs at work all the time and have to specifically tell the kids at home "please don't use that mug - I want it for coffee this morning" :rotfl2: You can spend $12 on a t-shirt, hat or knick knack or a refillable mug that is used almost every day. Hm.

My kids, 14 & 11, are like your son, they love a bit of freedom around the resort & running to/from the food area when at the pool or game room. I'm more likely to hit the bar and ask for something a little more adult & they don't seem to have a refillable mug for that ... yet. ;)

Given your situation, I doubt I would opt for buying the mugs.

For a short trip like that, I would not get the mugs. You'll have plenty of drinks with your meals & snack credits.

Maybe just get one. I needed mine for extra morning coffee when I was at POR last year! :hyper: The kids didn't get one because I didn't let them have that much pop when we were there. ;)

We had free dining last year at SSR and still used our mugs... A LOT! :goodvibes

I always purchase the refillable mug. It sometimes seems that the cost outweighs the benefits. But I like to be immersed in the Disney experience and so I splurge. We always stay at least a week and so I can justify my purchase because we will use it longer. It is a tough call, especially since you will only be there for the weekend. It is nice, though, to bypass the long liines at the food courts when you only want something to drink. Just go to the beverage station, fill er up, and go back to your room/pool. Plus, if you want something else to drink besides coffee, then you will have to pay oop and drinks at WDW are expensive. So, the cost may not outweigh the benefits especially if you have children who will not be drinking coffee.

We always get the mugs as we love to have them while we're at the pool :goodvibes. Plus between the 4 of us, everyone drinks something different, so getting 1 or 2 mugs to share wouldn't go over too well in our family  . But we also use them at home after our trips, so the mugs are just part of our souvenier purchases ::yes::.

Given the fact that you are going to be there less than a week, you are driving so can easily make a grocery stop for water/soda, are taking a coffee pot, are trying to keep costs down AND are on the DDP -- No, brainer ... skip the refillable mugs.

I never thought they were worth all the time and trouble. Why walk all that way for an extra, what is it, once the ice is in there...8 oz?...of pop?

If you have a car, you can bring a cooler and stop for pop at the grocery store...and you'll have your choice of pop! :)
