Resort Mousekeeping- questions for those who have visited recently

ooookaaay. That's a very "un-magical" experience for you and esp your DD. Sorry that happened.
Note to self: Have security latch engaged whenever we are in the room. Seriously! I added it to my trip notes. My DD is 19 but this would even freak her out. There is a reasonable expectation of privacy when you are in your hotel room. Did you ask him why he continued to enter, uninvited, even though the "Room Occupied" sign was hung?

If you don’t answer the door, they will enter, even if the room occupied sign is on. I’ve noticed they wait longer before entering if the sign is on.

What do they do when they "check"?
Do they fully enter the room or just peek in from the doorway?

We’ve been in our room plenty of times when they’ve entered. They have always come right in and walked to the back of our resort room, sometimes switching on lights, and looking in the washroom. They’ve always been polite, quick and seem slightly embarrassed. Lol. Other people have reported they just quickly look in.

This was pre-Covid though. I’m not sure if their protocols have changed.

I guess I will pack enough wipes to do the light switches & door knobs after each time we return from the parks or pool.

The Room Occupied sign is solely to advise CMs that there is (or is probably) someone in the room. It's absolutely not to keep CMs out. Any CM is "invited" (read: legally permitted) to enter a room for any reason, per the room rental agreement the guest signs, whether virtually or in person.

Latch much more so than sign. Latch physically prevents access to the room.

have not read that the latch has been unlocked but remember they can unlock it very easily. look it up on internet. talking seconds not minutes.

yes, I understand. But still, this idea that, if you neglect to place the sign + engage the latch, a stranger can unlock and enter your room, while you are in it is still...... a mental adjustment to what those of us who haven't been there recently.

I would think that the CMs would realize that they run the real risk of having an embarassing situation for all involved (themselves included) if they remove the latch of an occupied room in "seconds" after the warning knock.
(I get that sometimes this would be absolutely necessary.... like if it sounded like someone in the room was being attacked.)

If they try to come in and the latch is on, they’ll ask you if it’s okay to do a room check. You can always say no and ask them to come back later. I haven’t heard any reports of security barging in on guests if they’ve said no.

We were there for 2 weeks and they did come every single day, sign on the door or not. We did use the security lock. One thing we did notice this time was though was, in the past we told them they could just check while we were in the room and this time they stated they would come back only when we were out of the room. Which I get since they want minimal contact with guests. Also did notice that when guests checked out, they did leave those rooms empty for a few days before reassigning them again (curtains were left open).

Ya, I'm considering declining whatever Mousekeeping schedule I'm due for as well. But then, what about the "security checks" some have mentioned. That's new since our last WDW stay. Do they HAVE to enter your room at some point(s) even w/o your permission?

When we were at AKL they only knocked on the door and I opened it, but never came in.

Hi, so they were switching from small bottles to dispensers in the bathroom toiletries. Has me wondering:
do they have individual shampoo and soap again now or the dispensers?

It depends on which resort and in some resorts whether an individual room has been updated to have the larger dispensers in the bathroom.

If the dispensers are already installed then they are sanitized and covered in plastic before you arrive. If the dispensers have not been installed then your room will still have the individual toiletries.

I guess I assumed they had some workaround--though I figured it was a master key that undoes the bolt or something. It can't be the case that Disney would prevent itself from entering a room in an emergency.

maybe not their employees but it is a false sense of security if you watch the video of how simple it is to open one of the latches for anyone to open
