PLEASE forgive me if this question has been asked before. When my family went to disney and they arrive near opening at mk in march there was a long line to get from the ttc to mk. They were waiting in line when a CM approched them and told them to that they were staying at the polynesian and to get on the resort monorail. They of course weren't staying at the polynesian resort and didn't understand. He explained how long the line was and told them to ride the resort monorail all the way to the magic kingdom and to say the were staying at the polynesain.

Is this a time saving trick to get from the ttc to the magic kingdom faster? Are the resort monorails ONLY for resort guest? or could you use them to eat at the resort and then ride it to the park? how long would the line need to be for it to be worth riding the resort monorail instead of the direct monorail to the park?

The resort monorail is, contrary to what some believe, not for the exclusive use of resort guests. At certain times of day when the line backs up at TTC, yes it is faster to take the resort side. If the line is all the way down the ramp, I would recomend it. Keep in mind from TTC, the train will make two stops which should, in operational theory, take 1.5 minutes each. They're usually a bit longer. Either way, Enjoy the journey, and remember: you are headed to Main Street USA, gateway to the six themed lands of the Magic Kingdom.

Nobody asks you if you're staying at a resort, you're at the TTC and you need to get to MK,the resort monorail stops at the TTC and at MK so you're free to ride it.You're a WDW resort guest if you're staying onsite or offsite, you can take any transportation you want throughout the resorts and parks,buses,boats,monorails,etc..There are downsides of taking the resort monorail, the monorails don't run as frequently as the express and makes stops at Poly and GF before reaching MK.There are times I've taken the resort monorail where it's been a shorter wait than the express monorail and there's been times it's taken longer.
