resort ids?

Hi all! This will be our first time at a Disney resort and I'm wondering about the ids I've heard mentioned a couple of times. Is this a card or wrist band? Does everyone in the room get one? Do you have to show it before you swim? or take the bus? What about driving to the parks during the day- need an id so you don't have to pay for parking? I'll be staying at CBR. Thanks for info!

The resort id looks like a credit card. You can use it to charge back to your room account. Everyone will get one but you don't have to allow charging on the cards. The card will also open your room and some of the side doors to some resorts. AFAIK SAB (BC/YC) is the only pool that checks resort ids (they then give you a wrist band.
I don't think the buses ever check for ID.
You get a parking pass you can use for parking in the theme parks.

That is correct...I have never been checked anywhere for an ID and they amount to no more than a room key usually.

Last spring we gave our DS5 a resort room key (w/o charging privileges, of course!) to keep in his pocket. In case he got lost, any CM would know who he belonged to, and at which resort, just from the reservation number. Plus it made him feel like a big kid.

BTW, the card has his name on it, but the Disney resort name and room number is only encoded on the magnetic stripe on the back of the card (not printed on the front).

Also note that if your park passes are purchased as part of your room package (or at least purchased at your resort), the ID's also serve as your park admittance media.

That's right! I always forget that b/c we never do the UPH passes.

Yes, if you have a package including ultimate hopper passes your resort id will be your room key, park admission and you will also use it for fastpasses. It can also be a charge card if you make arrangements for that at check in.

The first four digits of the ID # at the bottom of your room key indicate which resort you are staying at. POR is 9915, can't find one of my CBR cards at the moment.

Gibmom - Even if you buy parkhopper passes separately, make sure you take everyone's resort ID to be admitted to one of the parks for early entry. You have to be staying on-site for early entry, and the resort ID is your proof of that!

The whole time we were there in July, they checked resort ID's at MGM for EE days. I'm not sure if they did for the other parks.

we stayed at CBR for our first trip to WDW in August this year. It was booked as a package so the card keys were our ultimate park hoppers too. The numbers at the start are #9986 if that helps lol. We had it set up to charge all the cards to the resort, my 2 DD's age 13 n 16 too. However as the booking was made in my name all 4 cards were printed with my name on the front...altho we all had to sign a card each. This caused a problem only on one occasion when a CM asked DH for additional ID as the name on the front said Elizabeth..

The only other time we needed the card key was to get into the launderette....(just thought I had better mention that one, as i forgot to bring mine the first time lol.)

We had a fantastic time there n didnt want to leave...I hope you enjoy it as much.

If the 1st 4 digits of the ID# on your "card" is an indicator of the Resort that you are staying at:

9919 = All-Star Sports
9986 = CBR
