I've found from some of your posts that you split your stays between resorts. I'm just curious....what's the benefit? Is it a hassle? Did you plan this on purpose or because you couldn't stay at one resort for the length of your trip???

I'm just curious...this might be something to try out later if it's worth while!

I don't like doing it. To me, it's a waste of time and a total hassle. The only time I do it is if I don't have enough DVC points for the entire trip. I hate packing up and unpacking in the new resort.

For people who live out of suitcases while on vacation, and don't carry a bunch of extraneous stuff (I've seen the following mentioned on these boards: coffee maker, microwave, crock pot, hot plate, toaster, cooler, baby swing, high chair, dorm fridge, vcr, Nintendo, etc.) it might be a lot easier.

Nope! we won't ever do it again. We are DVC members also and stayed at Ron Jon's for 3 nights b4 checking into the Boardwalk. Me & DH hated it. We didn't feel like we were on vacation till we could actually unpack. From what I understand, some people really like it. I just prefer to unpack my junk and relax.

It can be nice if you just absolutely cannot decide where to stay. Also, if you can't afford to stay at a deluxe the whole time, you can split your time between a moderate and a deluxe. It does take time, though. If it doesn't sound like something you'd enjoy, then you probably wouldn't.

Some do it as a cost saving measure, perhaps they can't afford Deluxe the whole trip, so they schedule several days at the All Stars. Others want to experience more than one resort or they may want to be close to the MK and then move closer to Epcot. We've never done it either, it seems to much of a hassle to me. If it were just me and DH I might consider doing it, but not with the three kids, too many suitcases to repack!

We have switched resorts 4 of our last 6 trips and are again this fall. We really enjoy it.
It gives us a change to experience multiple resorts.
We have never had a problem switching.

We enjoy having a new base of operations part way through the trip. In the past we have split the trip between a MK resort and Epcot resort. Then we plan our days so we are at MK and related attractions while at the MK resort, then go to Epcot while at the Epcot resort.

Its not for everyone but we love it....

Can't wait!!!!

We started doing it in 2000 because I just couldn't put my foot down and say I want to stay here - so I picked a couple. As long as we are staying on Disney property at Disney resorts, then switching is made so easy for us. I've heard people complain about packing and uppacking, taking too much time, etc. Each one for us has taken us about an extra 1/2 hour to an hour per switch. We wouldn't have been able to have experienced all the resorts we have if it wasn't for this option. Now, I can't imagine a vacation at Disney World without at least one switch.

This is the first time that we are going to switch resorts during our stay. We are staying at Allstars 4 nights and AKL 3 nights. We are going to switch on a day we are going to a water park since we don't have to be there so early and we can leave aroung 3:00 PM. Another time saver I plan on doing is packing the children's clothes in the very large zip lock bags. I have done this once before and I love it. Each child has a zip lock bag of clothes for each day. All he has to do is pick one and he has his full day's attire. When he gets ready for bed he puts the clothes back in the bag and zips it back up. That keeps the dirty clothes seperated from the clean without having to use a trash bag. By using this method packing up will be a cinch when switching resorts and we don't have to live out of the suitcases.

I've done it the last two times and it's easy because I rent a car.

It's fun to treat yourself to two nights at a Deluxe at the end of the trip (I did one night at the YC last time and I think you need 2 nights to feel settled in).

We may try this in October...I'm still hoping for some good code or AP rates so we won't have to. For our nine night trip, it'll save about $800 to stay at a moderate for the first 4 nights then AKL for the last 5 nights. I'm going to try using the large ziplock bags this time too...........and we don't bring the coffee maker, crockpot, toaster, hot plate.......... I seriously doubt the folks who do bring those things are the ones who split thier resort stays.

I have done it on all but the first of my 7 trips. I have been by myself and with family ( all adults) and it was no hassle at all. It takes 10 minutes to pack and since I always have a rental car you just pop the luggage into the car and drive over. I usuallt schedule this to occur on a off day when we are going to a water park or off property. But even if you don't have a car Disney will move your luggage. It is a great way to experience more than one resort, save money and take two vacations . :)

I like to resort hop, I am the only one who likes to resort hop but until someone else takes over the planning, we hop! :bounce:

There are a few reasons I like to hop... usually I find some fabulous deal for a night or two and we use that time to settle in, rest up and commando the first day or two. What is in the hotel doesn't matter to me if I am the Park Cammando Queen for a day or two - up at 7am and back to the hotel at 10ish.

After getting our Disney fill, we are rested, visited a park or two, and ready to enjoy! I like to take long vacations and staying in a deluxe type of resort isn't always a good idea. Not to mention the fact these annual passes haven't saved us a bunch because we keep squeezing in visits!

I like to start small and build up to a deluxe! I am leaving for a work conference on Saturday and staying at the FW Cabins, then my family will join me and we are doing the POR and finishing up with the Swan Club Room. That will be 3 switches for me and I'm looking forward to each switch!

I don't mind living out of a suitcase. I don't see much pleasure in packing my clothes away in the drawers - heck I can do that at home. So HE does all of the unpacking because he knows I'd just hang some clothes and keep the rest in the suitcase.

On our last trip, after we booked ASMO, we decided to add another night on to our package. There was no availability at ASMO. However, we were able to get a great rate for a "room only" reservation for the extra night at the Poly(my favorite resort). Since our passes were good through that whole day anyway we went for it. It really wasnt much hassle to move at all. I wouldnt want to do it on every trip, but if the opportunity arises again where I get a chance to spend a night or 2 at the Poly, only by splitting the stay, it would definitely be worth it for me.
