Resort Hopping?

We have booked POP for our 5/08 trip but I really wanted to stay at CSR. Dh thinks that since this is our first trip to WDW we should stay at the value resort since we have never been and won't have anything to compare it to. I am curious how many people stay at two resorts during their stay and if it is a good idea or not. I thought about maybe staying at CSR for 3 nights and POP 4 nights.

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I've only done it once, but a lot of people do it regularly. Wasn't a problem for me at CR and WL. It's a good compromise for you.

I think that it is a great way to check out resorts. We did many times. Its really not that difficult to change resorts if you have a car and don't pack a ton of stuff.

It is something I love to do, not only get the feel of different resorts and so different vacation experiences, but also proximity to things, such as I will stay at the Poly and the Beach club, or POR and CSR. Disney handles all the transport of your luggage etc. just know it won't arrive till about 3 pm so have what you need with you.
not doing it this time because it would interfer with my Season Special savings package.

Sounds like a good compromise for you. However, you might want to switch your order. Stay at the value first and the moderate second. You wouldn't be "downgrading" (although Pop is a great resort).

When you check out of your first resort (use Express Checkout if you can), take your bags to Luggage Services (or call downstairs). They will then handle the transfer over to the next resort. then check into your new resort whenever during the day. Your luggage should be delivered that afternoon. I don't think I've seen anyone post that their luggage was lost during a transfer.

Except for having the check in twice, it's relatively painless.

I switched resorts this August for the first time. We started out at ASMU and moved to SSR. I was only at ASMU for 2 nights so we really tried not to unpack too much. We took a cab to our new resort. It cost 20. We just walked out to the front of the resort with our luggage. There were cabs sitting out there. He dropped us off in front of our new resort. Within a matter of 15 minutes we were there...well worth the 20 bucks!!

I personally did this on my honeymoon, but did just the opposite, I went from the Boardwalk to POFQ - bad idea .......whatever you do DO NOT downgrade.....you will be greatly disappointed!

Definately start at the value and then go to the moderate.

In all honesty, I will never do a resort hop mid-trip again. It was kind of a hassle and took too much time away from the parks having to check out and in and pack and unpack. But, that was just my personal choice. But, at the same time, i was also lugging around a wedding dress, tux, etc. so...that may have had something to do with it too...lol

We will be resort hopping for the first time in September 2008. We are going to WL first and the AKL. The TA could not get AKL first, so we comprimised. WL 1st/ AKL 2nd.
Hopefully this will go well. I am not looking forward to unpacking twice and/or vice-versa.

We did this one time. We went from 4 nights at PO-R and then 3 nights at Poly. We had a car and found that switching resorts was not a hassel. I would not do a switch for anything less than 3 nights. I also concur that the only way to do this is to upgrade for the second part of your trip.

While we didn't find it to be a big problem to switch, we probably won't do it again. We like to be able to settle in for a week and you can't really do that in a split stay.

We didn't switch Disney resorts but we stayed at 4 different hotels while we were there.

We started at Portofino (1 night), then moved to the Nick Hotel (1 night), then Contemporary (5 nights), then Grand Hyatt ( 3 nights).

For us, that was a little to much. It was really hard to leave the Contempory because it was right by the Magic Kingdom.

I think two would be great though. Just save the best for last.

I just booked our trip for June '08 and we will be spending 3 nights at the Nick Hotel (dam commercials that the kids watch!), then 3 nights at the Contemporary, and then 4 nights at the BC Villas. We will have 2 cars (we're 8 people) so hopefully it won't be too much of a hassle.
