resort hopping and what to do???

Hey....
I am tagging along on a conv. trip with hubby in January for 4 days and don't plan on any park days as we are going as a family in March so want to resort hop to see some other places.
We are staying at POR and I wonder if the best thing is to go to Downtown disney and get on other buses from there?
I would love to go to the boardwalk and look around and go to the Poly and the Contemporary....
Any suggestions?
I was thinking hubby and I would go to boardwalk for dinner one night???
We have only ever stayed at POP and CBR and never seen the other resorts....

Not sure why you'd want to go to DTD first and then catch other buses to resorts. I'd hop on a bus directly from POR and start touring the monorail resorts. The decorations will be beautiful. The gingerbread house and the gardens decorated with poinsettias (sp?) at the GF were beautiful.

From the MK monorail stop, you can catch the boat launch to WL. You can then go to the Boardwalk resort and have a kitchen sink at Beaches & Cream. Sounds like you'll have a great time exploring the resorts.

It is usually faster to take a bus to the park (park must be open) nearest your resort or your destination resort. There are multiple stops in DTD, so it can take forever to resort hop this way. For example, if you want to see AKL, take a bus to AK (if it is open) and then AKL. For the MK resorts, take a bus to the TTC and hop the monorail. From there, you can see CR, Poly, and GF. There is a boat from CR to WL.

For the Boardwalk, maybe take a bus to MGM and then walk or bus to a Boardwalk resort. There might be a better way, but that is off the top of my head. I don't think that Boardwalk resorts have buses to Epcot because those guests can use the back entrance of Epcot.

Check the transportation board. There might be some better ideas.

Resort hopping is so much fun - you will have a great time!

You see....this is exactly the reason to post. I had no idea that I should go to a park first......this is great info.

I am printing off this advice and taking it with me so I know how best to get around ........I can't wait.
The kitchen sink photos I have seen are crazy!!!
Is this a good place for dinner at Boardwalk ??
Isn't there some sort of nightclub at boardwalk also where we can listen to music and have a drink?

Spoodles, Flying Fish, and Yachtsman Steakhouse are some nice restaurants off the top of my head. I have only been to Spoodles, and that was for breakfast 7 or 8 years ago. I would post on the restaurant board for recs for Boardwalk restaurants. Yachtsman Steakhouse (inside the YC resort) would be my pic.

If you decide you do want to do a park, have your husband check to see if they are selling the partial day convention tickets to his group. Disney has a one day after 2pm and a one day after 4pm ticket that they sell only to convention groups, at a considerable savings over a one day ticket. Even in January when things typically close early, you could use one of these at a park with evening EMH and maximize your time at a much smaller expense.

Boardwalk is fun for an evening. You can go to Jellyrolls or Atlantic Dance, in addition to all the great restaurants and shops. It can take the better part of a day to explore all the Epcot resorts (there are five - seven if you count the DVC separately) and the better part of another day to tour all the monorail resorts plus WL and FW (I love to go to FW during the day and just wander about - it's so peaceful there).

Don't forget that you can also use the recreational facilities of any of the Disney resorts (with the exception of the pools) so if you want to play tennis, horseback ride, water ski, parasail, or just take a boat out on Bay Lake, you can. That's another great way to spend a non park day.

you take the bus to the MK - then switch to the monrail for the GF, Polyn, CR resorts. you go back to the MK and take the boat to Wl and FW.

for BW - you take the bus to Studios then either walk or take the Boat to the Epcot resorts - D/S, BW, BC, YC (these include BWV and BCV).

for DD - you can walk to POFQ. for SSR and OKW - you take the boat to DD then change boats to the DVC boat (it goes to both SSR and OKW).

or you can walk to SSR from the marketplace.
