Wigd (and other teachers) how often do you have to change classrooms?

I have only changed rooms when I've switched grades. First to fourth at one school and kindergarten to third at my current school.

Hey! on your petition, I would say really it doesn't seem like they trust your professional judgement to use the internet in appropriate ways. That doesn't seem fair to me. Now your reasons, the arguements for having access to the photos, is good, but I would not focus on that alone -- because they could counter that the same type of material could be found elsewhere. It is disconcerting that they made this change... and how they determined it was necessary.. I would inquire why. That forces them to say it. Unless they did already. I mean, are there OTHER community posting boards that are "blocked" -- is facebook? I think you can certainly say that DIS is NOT facebook, but also, you could say that really the DIS is not far from email -- private email accounts, etc.

I would be most curious to hear their reason and how they came to the decision. What stakeholders in your school participated in the discussion to determine the sites that would be blocked, etc....

I'm sure they blocked it because they saw that it was being used during the day and they found no educational value in it.

Oh facebook is blocked.
Youtube is blocked and there is so much good stuff on there, I know, so much bad stuff too that the kids could get a hold of...

I can get to the DIS from my iphone at school but that defeats the purpose of getting to pictures and I really do use peoples pictures all the time!

Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Nothing original or creative. I think I'm going to go with Toy Story - to go along with Brooklynn's birthday party. You've Got a Friend in Second Grade or You've Got a Friend in Our Class with Toy Story characters all around.

The girl who taught next to me last year is having to move to another room. She called yesterday and told me she tried to go down and work, but the janitors wouldn't let her in because they were buffing the floor on that hall. I'll get there next week sometime, I guess.

Toy Story is a perfect theme to go with!
I hope my Jessie plush gets here, because I was planning a Toy Story back to school gathering as well!

I love the sound of that. When I'm a teacher, I can't wait to incorporate Disney into my classroom.

I have only changed when I switched schools.
This time I went for a better area in the room. We have an "open" classroom and one of the teachers retired. I'm moving to her area. It's a prime spot!

Whew.... all caught up. Love the Potato Head parts pictures! James packed a box with Chris at Christmas. I love those adorable disney parts. Never thought about looking for them at garage sales or ebay... off to browse ebay! Can't wait for an update.

I'll be updating this weekend.
Potato heads will be on their way to the classroom as soon as I clear a spot for them!

I would love to be part of the 2011 Dismeet. When are you going to be there again? We have went the 2nd week of December in the past, but we will have to go around Christmas this year because our oldest will be in kindergarten.

In my 8 years of teaching, I've only changed classrooms once, not counting years where I switched schools. I've also had to "float" for 2 years, where I used multiple classrooms during the course of the day... floating is not common in elementary schools, but in secondary schools, it can be quite common.

When you get in the upper grades you don't have as much baggage to cart around....

Sarah's teacher (from the last two years - split class) is moving to an open room and asked if she and some friends would like to come and help her. Of course they think that's a real treat!! I think they are going to do it after we get back from WDW.

I've never had to change just "because". Once my school was being remodeled so we had to pack up and move two years in a row...that was a pain. Knock on wood I haven't had to move at my current school. My principal claims he's moving me to a higher grade next year...I'd have to move then...we'll see!

It should be simple enough. It'll be something Disney, I know that much. My fellow teachers would be highly disappointed if it wasn't.

Brooklynn's party is at her house this year. Jill does the first two at my house for convenience of everyone traveling, but when they start making friends by age 3, she does them at home so that the friends can come. Trent should have plane tickets before the night is over, too.

I just sold my soul (my annual pass renewal as of July 25th) for a couple of plane tickets to a birthday party. There will be no Christmas trip for me. Maybe Jill's bunch.

I told Jill I need a vacation in June and the end of July. One after school is out and one after camp! After this week of work, I got nuttin to look forward to. Last year, when camp ended, we left the next day!

I'll just concentrate on Brooklynn's birthday party to make me happy.

I called MS today and tried to get a 1-br at BLT for next week's trip since we've got 4 adults staying in the room, but only 2, non-consecutive nights were available. Then I moved our March trip to June, but managed to keep club level @ AKL for 4 nights... and at the 7-month mark, I'll add a couple of days at either BCV or BWV.

AND... I'm trying to convince John that we should take Smudge to Disney for his/her first Christmas in 2011... If he goes for it, we'd probably fly down on the 23rd or so for 2 days by ourselves as a family, and then my parents & John's mom (and brother?) would likely join us for another 3 days or so. So it might work out for us to be at the ever-growing Christmas 2011 DISmeet!

I can't wait to do it either. I'm hoping to go back and get my elementary teaching certificate once my little one goes to school. I used to love the hall-decorating part of RAing in college.
