For your first solo trip did you choose a resort you had already stayed at, or a new one?

I'm not sure which way to go. If I stay someplace I have been at before, I will at least have a little comfort level on how things are laid out. But I may spend a lot of time remembering my last stay there with the family. I don't want to do that. :guilty:

If I stay someplace new, I will loose any feeling of at least knowing my way around the resort. I'm a bit nervous about being solo, so I kind of like the idea of knowing what to expect at a resort.

If it makes a difference, the resort I have stayed at before is the All Star Music. The one I am thinking about that I haven't stayed at is the Pop.

Any advice?

If it were me, I would go with a resort I had never stayed at. That way, if you have any down time, it will give you a whole new resort to explore on your own.

I would try something new. If you can take advantage of a midsize resort I would go with POR or Carribbean. Lots of hidden areas to relax and well spaced out so you don't feel over crowded. I find the all stars a little crowded and people losing all sense of manners.

I had only stayed at the Beach Club, and when I went solo I stayed at Pop. I loved it and am seriously considering going back. I would give it a try--I never felt unsafe at all. Go for it!

On my first solo trip I was planning on meeting up with DISsers, the bulk of which were staying at Pop. They were the reason I was going on this solo trip. So I booked at Pop. Had a blast. . .

Personally, I would book wherever you feel like staying. . .wanting to try a new resort? Go for it. . .just enjoy.

One thing to remember. Not every trip will be perfect and wonderful. That is normal. Just accept that and move on. Relax and enjoy your trip for what it is.

For me for the first solo trip I might stay somewhere I knew and was familier with. Then the following solo trips I would try new ones. What ever you decided enjoy! :)

I have never been to Pop, but have been to ASMU and ASMO, and maybe you could get the comfort of familiarity with a little bit of difference if you stay at ASMO? They are laid out similar, the decor would be similar, but you would have new things to look at. New memories to make.

It would all depend on what you prefer. I personally would want something different if I felt I would just get too sad at the memories.

For my first solo resort stay, I stayed at a new resort. But part of the reason was that it wasn't my choice-my first solo trip was a surprise gift from my family. After that time, however, I always returned to that same resort for my solo trips. I called it "my solo resort" (Dixie Landings/POR, BTW) I know very well about being reluctant to stay at a resort where you've stayed with your family. On one trip, POR was closed, yet I wouldn't consider staying at POFQ, since that was one of DH's favorite resorts. Even now that we're DVC members, I have a resort I stay at when I'm solo (BCV), DH has never stayed there, and I wouldn't want to stay solo at OKW, which is where I go on family stays.

:thumbsup2 Pop is laid out almost exactly like the ALL Stars. You would have a sense on familiarity without it being the same resort. I would think it would be perfect for you.

I agree with PP. I've stayed at the All-stars and at POP and the layout is basically the same. POP is just bigger, and has its own bus to the parks. You should try out POP, I have never had a bad stay there.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have decided to stay at the Pop. It will be something new to look forward to. And then when all of those Pop vs All Star threads come up, I can offer good, unbiased advice!:thumbsup2

Thanks again!

Good choice. We have stayed at Deluxe Hotels, Moderates, and at the Value. Our favirite for the Value resorts is POP. I agree witht the other poster's that you will have an easy time adjusting having stayed at other Value resorts. Have fun!
