resort guest parking pass for the theme parks

are these a physical thing? is it something we can print off before we leave? something we pick up from guest-services at the resort? something that's mailed to us? something they can scan a magic band for? We are staying offsite with family for a week and then at AoA for 4 nights, and I'm trying to figure out all of the logistics we need to handle once the in-laws head for home.

It's all done via the magic band now. The scan tells the parking entry system that you have a current reservation at a Disney resort, which gives you access to the theme park parking lots without paying the fee.

They do but they aren't needed to avoid paying a parking fee at the parks. That is done with the MB

I like the paper passes too, quicker than scanning MB. Not all resorts are giving them out though. Boardwalk Villas still does.

My issue is that we are surprising our kids with the AoA stay, and we are going to HS, then checking in after lunch, and then going back in the early evening for more stuff/Fantasmic (which they LOVED last time despite our awful seats). The only way we could get a paper pass is to go to the resort pre-rope-drop and get it, and that would spoil the surprise. Paying for parking wouldn't be a terrible thing, but is supposed to be a perk of staying on-site, hence my question. If they can just scan our bands and say we're good to go, that's all I need to know.

In 2015, we went to the parks prior to checking in and they just scanned our bands. Also, you can do online check in and never have to go to the front desk. You'll get a text when your room is ready.
