Resort for marathon Weekend

I'm trying to choose a resort for marathon weekend in January. This will be our second time at the marathon but a first for me to run the 1/2. My husband will be running in both the 1/2 and full. Last time we stayed at the Boardwalk hoping to be able to walk to the start through Epcot, which we found out was not allowed. We both did not like taking the bus to the start/finish, which was our only option from there.

My question is, if we stay at the Polynesian will the monorails be running early enough to get us to the races?

I do believe the monorail will be running early enough, yes.

Not sure about the monorails, but don't forget the wonderful convenience of walking back to your resort through EPCOT. I can only imagine how long the bus and monorail lines (for that stinky!) ride will be to get back , but on the other hand you'd need to a park ticket to get back through EPCOT, too.

To me, it wouldn't be a marathon unless I had to get up early and stand in line for at least a short bus ride. You may or may not like standing in the monorail lines for marathoners better, but regardless, dwwlmw, good luck, have a great time and sure hope you enjoy wherever you stay!

Thanks you!! Yes we did the Epcot walk back last time and didn't really mind that I think for me as a spectator on Marathon day the monorail would be a better choice. Last time I didn't get up quite as early as my husband. My plan was to take a little bit later bus that was for spectators, hop on the monorail to see him run by the poly and then hop back on to see him finish. The bus came so much later than the stated time and had so many stops that he was well past the Poly before I even made it to the Epcot parking lot. I was thinking this time if we stay at the Poly I could get up, watch him pass and then hop on the monorail and watch him finish.

Yes, the monorail will be running early enough to get you to the races. But there will be lines and crowds for that as well.

We stayed at the boardwalk this year for the marathon and thought the bus rides went extremely smoothly both ways. I guess maybe it depends on timing.

We stayed at the BC last year for the weekend and had no problems getting to the 5K, 1/2, and full. We actually walked over to the BW to get the bus since there were less people in line there. We took the monorail over to TTC and watched the race from there and then walked over to Poly to see them come by there. The monorails can be just as busy as waiting for a bus. Also don't forget you have to change monorails if you stay at CR. We are already booked at the BC for marathon weekend. This year I am doing the new 5K, DH is doing the 1/2 again, and DD will be doing the marathon again. Walking back through Epcot at the end is much easier than having to wait in the crowd trying to get on a bus. No matter what you decide Disney is so organized you will get to where you need to go.
