Resort fee for DVC rentals?

When you rent dvc points from members to book a stay in one of the resorts, is there a resort fee tacked on that has to be paid when you get there? (I know this is the case with booking non-dvc rooms.). Any other fees to be concerned about on top of paying for the points?

When I've rented points from a DVC owner, there was never a fee. I think this fee applies for RCI exchanges between another timeshare and disney, but could be wrong!

The only other possible fee is PayPal - if you pay by credit card, then expect to pay the 2.9% fee charged by PayPal.

if you are truly paying for a points rental from an owner, there are no additional fees for the stay. (there is an exception as aulani in hawaii does charge an extra fee to whomever is staying in the villa. aulani is unique, though.)

as noted, if someone is trying to rent an RCI exchange (which is a violation of RCI policy if RCI chooses to enforce it), there is an additional $95 fee for those stays.

And Disney does not (yet anyway) charge a resort fee at any of their resorts - DVC or otherwise.

I would assume there would be a substantial backlash if they try to charge owners (not renters) to use their points. After all the amount of points you own are based on the percentage of ownership in a deeded property. Hawai'i is different as it is a state imposed tax. Not a Disney imposed tax or fee. Your Disney imposed fee is your annual maintenance fee....

Exchanges made thru RCI will have a $95 "resort" fee due at arrival. If you rent from a DVC member there will NOT be any fee or room tax added to the stay (although legally a room tax should probably be added as the member will be responsible for that from a legal standpoint).

If you rent a reservation that has the $95 fee, it is via an RCI exchange and is also NOT ALLOWED by RCI. You could find your reservation canceled and no villa upon your arrival, so it might be wise to avoid such a rental.

RCI rentals are NOT ALLOWED on the DIS DVC Rent/Trade Board. RCI reservations are typically 7 days with the arrival on Saturday or Sunday. The $95 fee would certainly be a tip-off but might not always be mentioned. If you are offered a reservation with any mention of a $95 fee from any rental on the DIS, please inform any of the R/T moderators. If you are offered a reservation with the $95 fee from any other source, I would avoid sending any payment.

I wonder if this is true for Hawaii's tax.

Sounds like OP is referencing the $95 fee for booking non-DVC resorts like WDW Moderates, Yacht Club, etc. That fee does not apply for booking DVC resorts.

And if someone is trying to sell you a rental which features a $95 fee, it's probably an RCI trade as others have mentioned. RCI trades are not supposed to be re-sold or transferred to another party. If RCI discovers a reservation being re-sold, they could simply cancel the booking.

I wonder if this is true for Hawaii's tax.

Hawaii law states that the Transient Occupancy Tax must be paid by the room occupant. Therefore hotels and timeshares are required to collect the monies during the stay itself. Whether you book Aulani as a cash guest, renter, RCI trade or any other means, the TAT will be charged at the resort.

Incidentally, California also has a Transient Occupancy Tax but laws allow it to be billed to the owner. Thus, the Cal TAT is bundled in the annual dues for VGC owners.
