We are in the talks(by talks I mean convincing DH its a good idea) of a late fall trip. Last time we had FD and hopes are high they offer again..:confused3 My question is, Should I make ADR's if we are planning on trying some of the resorts TS instead of doing alot of character dining? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Where better to go than to the pros! THanks in advance

If free dining is offered during your stay, LOTS of reservations get made even in the slow times and places will fill up, character dining or not. If you have places you don't want to miss, I would recommend ADRs for those at the minimum and you can wing the rest if you can be flexible if places are full on the day of. You can always cancel ressies or reschedule at a later time if things change, but I've never felt one meal ressie per day locks you in to any over-planning.

Sometimes TS at the resorts is just as hard to get as any character meal or hot restaurant in the park. For example, at our last trip to the Poly in early December 2012, we had ADRs one evening for Kona Cafe, and still had a miserable 20 minute wait. Ugh. Tired family, extremely noisy lobby, long wait, slow food.

Other resort restaurants are pretty popular. Boma, Sanaa, etc. It probably depends on the resort, but FD fills them all up.

Yeah, you still want ADRs. It doesn't hurt to have them, after all.

I agree with the pp's that I would make ADRs, especially if there are certain ones you want to try.

I would definitely makes reservations ahead but for many restaurants now you must provide credit card info and you will get charged a fee if you don't cancel 24 hours ahead. California grill is very hard to get into without advance reservations as is raglan road in Downtown Disney

I think it all depends on where you plan to dine. Some resort dining can easily accommodate walk ups while others are equally as popular - if not more - than many in-park options.
