I am planning a trip to WDW for the first week in December and had my heart set on the WL, assuming there would be a discount. To be sure I got a room, I booked one months ago planning to apply the discount when it became available. Lo and behold, there are no rooms available at the discount price so if I want to stay at WL, I have to pay full price. I'm having a hard time justifying that cost for a hotel. Also, I am now reading that the WL will be undergoing major construction at that time.

In searching, I pulled up a studio villa at Poly for less money than WL. Is that a better choice?

The other thing I'm considering is a business class room at Coronado.

What would you do?!

Just 2 adults! Neither have ever been at Christmastime which was why we were originally going for WL, but now I'm not so sure.

If there's construction, you may want to reconsider. Ive always wanted to stay at the Poly,so that would appeal to me. You could always just take the boat over to WL for lunch or dinner to check it out and enjoy the Christmas Decorations. CSR business class is also appealing to me, esp. since only 2 adults. I think both of your new choices are better to me than paying more to stay at WL.

I would go for the Poly. As Kricketnp said there will be construction at WL at that time so it make for a more enjoyable all around experience.

I've always wanted to stay at the Poly also so that part is def appealing.

Then on a money-saving note, CS is appealing. ha.

Not directed just to you personally OP but in general - if everyone does the same and books the resort at full price to ensure they get their choice then there is no incentive for Disney to offer discounts at that resort or at the least, there will be a very limited number of discounted rooms.

Another vote for going with the Poly at the lower price. The Poly is our favorite WDW resort!

WL is highly sought after because it is beautifully decorated for the holidays. The Poly, not so much. Both are great resorts but it depends on what you're looking for. If you really want the holiday flavor I'd say stick to WL, otherwise I'd switch.

I'd go for the Poly studio. I really like the decor in the studios there. Plus it's two adults so you won't have to worry about someone sleeping on the pull out bed.

One thing to consider... The Poly quiet/ east pool is scheduled to be under construction though early 2016. Some of the garden view studios in the Tokelau building overlook the quiet pool. Maybe you can switch from the WL, but request either he Moorea or Pago Pago longhouse, if construction is a concern. The Polynesian is a beautiful resort. I like the Hawaiian Christmas theme they have going on during the holidays. Best of luck!

I never thought about it this way. This is a great strategy to ensure discounts at the Poly!

Right now my husband and I have reservations at POR under the military discount. My dream resort for the trip we have which is also in Dec (never been during christmas) is WL. The only way we can get in there is the military discount and I just got off the phone and even they said just call back once and a while and see if anything opens up. Sometimes marketing will open up more things later on when trying to sell the resort. Still gives me hope. So in a week or two I will just call back. Even thought POR is not a deluxe I am actually excited about going because we got a royal room for the same price as a standard room on our discount.

I tried to get a military discount at WL too and no luck. I am thinking maybe once people start becoming aware of the construction, they will switch resorts and maybe discounts will open up there? Might be wishful thinking. I ended up going with AKL, which I'm really excited about now, so I doubt we try to switch.
