Resort Check-In?

Hey guys, this isn't my first trip to WDW but the first where I'll be the one who books the trip and does all the planning. And as I'm planning this trip (while having a ton of fun) I'm encountering some questions I hope you'll be able to help me with.

This year, I'm booking a week long vacation and staying at ASMovies. And I need help understanding the check-in process with that. So how much availability will you get in choosing your room at the front desk? I realize theres no way to book specific rooms online, so how much of a choice will I have when it comes to which building my room is in and is there anyway to book a specific location ahead of time? Lastly, how specific can you get in the sense of what floor or near elevators, etc.?

I'm on my way home from a stay at AllStar Sports now, and when I did online check-in, I could request a certain building and floor level. I requested 3rd floor at Home Run Hotel, and got both. So if you didn't do online check-in, I'm sure you'd have no trouble making those requests t check-in :)

Oh thats great to hear! I guess we've never done the online check-in and it'd be great to have the knowledge in advance and thats exactly what I was hoping for, thanks!
 
I did online checkin for our current trip to ASMu (we're here now) and chose building and floor - I also called and asked for a fridge and a few other things. Got to the resort around noon, room was ready but none of my requests had been met. DW called to ask what happened, and they had no record of any requests at all. They said they couldn't do anything until the next night, so before leaving for the park the next day we had to repack (including our garden grocer order) and were homeless for a day. Got back that evening, new room assignment (Calypso building, yay!), all requests met including fridge and all of our luggage and groceries were in the room.

I was feeling a little down after the room snafu, but Disney did everything to make it right and the rest of our trip has been great.
