Resort Character M&G new rules?

It was the Special DVC meet and greet offered the day before Halloween that was arranged and purchased by DVC. The DVC-only meets happen fairly often at OKW and SSR and being close to the Holiday was obviously confusing to many.

All Holiday enhancement meet and greets are provided by Disney and are available to all guests.

Makes perfect sense, too bad it didn't say that on the sign OR are you still considered DVC even if you just booked your room at "hotel rate" via Disney?

When the DVC meets are held, it’s strictly for the resort guests - owners and whoever is staying there as a Guest. I believe that’s why it’s only those 2 Resorts.

It wouldn’t go over well at the Deluxes with DVC if they tried to limit it to DVC-only.

Thanks. You know I've always avoided those resorts, even though I like them, because I would be a "paying guest per night" and I just wasn't clear on what would be provided and not. Always seem a grey place.

Did they get any explanation why the sign said it was for registered OKW guests only?

I know it was just on a tweet and normally never put credence when only one, but it is a photo of a Disney resort sign. :confused3
Every resort activity calendar has said for years, that these activities are for resort guests only. Just like swimming in the pools.

Or free soda. Or fill in the blank that has been restricted over the years.

Someone at OKW seems hot to trot on this issue, and depending on how much they press the issue, I would expect procedural changes to follow.

I will disagree with you on this one.

Disney has always welcomed others to their resort activities; such as Chip & Dale Campfire, WL Ladybug release and architecture tour, Grand Floridian Prince/cess Promenade, wide range of entertainment and animal programs at AKL, Polynesian Hula Dancing ............ and on and on. The hotels have always welcomed guests from other Disney hotels and those just visiting the hotel to look or eat to participate. We have participated in many over the years and never was there so many folks participating that it was an issue. And there is a wide number of fee based activites, they welcome money from anyone who wishes to pay.

I can't find this restriction printed on any activities sheet. Can you show us one of the calendars that says it is restricted, because that would help many that were not told this by Disney CMs.

"Free soda" .......... if you mean refillable mugs, then they are welcome at all Disney resorts, not just your own unless they have recently changed that rule. This way if you go eat at another resort you may take your mug. The chip in the mug determines if you get soda. There is no longer any free soda since the chip cups were introduced years ago (other than in parks where folks rip Disney off).

Agree, pools other than sister resorts and DVC rules, are off limits except for guests.

They have always welcomed guests - until they become a nuisance. At some point the disruption is not worth policing, but see the Poly on July 4 and NYE where they no longer allow any local to come lounge on the beach to watch the fireworks. Or trick our treating at DTD. The entire recreation calendar is labeled as Poolside Activities internally which as you point out, are not for non resort guests.

The person you need to plead your case with is the OKW activities manager. Depending on how hard they want to press the issue, will be the ultimate outcome. All they have to do is call these private events and put them in the banquet rooms and community halls of their respective resorts and it will eliminate any ambiguity. Or just cut them completely, which is what I would do. They are obviously not being utilized as a guest/owner amenity to the extent they are intended to be. These things cost money, and the intent is to drive revenue as a result or make DVC member happy, not to give locals something cool to do to "kill time"...

- You completely contradicted yourself saying every resort calendar for years has said resort guests only and then they have always welcomed guests. The first is not true, the calendars do not say that.

- Those are two of the busiest nights that have always had additional restrictions. They have nothing to do with the normal activities the rest of the year.

- The activities calendar is not all included on the Poolside Activities, only those that are by the pool. Most of the extras are not even on the same side of the paper as the poolside activities. ONLY poolside activities are restricted.

- OKW IS A PRIVATE EVENT, as stated above by moderator who has first hand information from Disney. No need for anyone to try to plead, either you were staying there or not. This whole thread is about why this particular event was not including other resort guests ............. it was because it was a private DVC event. As stated this has nothing to do the other activities throughout the resort.

My, touchy aren't we - what was happening at OKW was no different than what they, or any other resort, has been doing for years at major holidays. You publish the information in a manner only resort guests should be able to be aware of it and hopefully keep the crowds down. Of course, history and leaks within the entertainment department make that impossible.

There are soft restrictions, which are nicely telling people they shouldn't be there. But then when they are enforced with hard restrictions like scanning bands because people cant take a gentle hint like yourself, there is an uproar.

As I said, look for further restrictions or eliminations as the situation has become a dissatisfier for resort guests which was the exact opposite of the intent.

Every resort allowed us in on Halloween night except for OKW which had a sign out front which said no vehicles unless you were staying at the resort.

In other words - locals keep out. A soft enforcement, though reports indicate hard enforcements were in effect at times during the evening.
