Resort Change by Disney

This is making me pretty anxious. We have a reservation at CBR July 18-21 which is pretty close to the reopening. I feel like if they open non-DVC, the Skyliner resorts will be the first to open, but there’s been zero communication. Hoping for a free change but I guess I’ll see by Monday.

Also, with resort modifications opening Monday as well, do you think we’ll have a list of the resorts that are open? I currently have a reservation for a Fort Wilderness cabin for late August. We were originally booked at POFQ for late June, but I moved it two weeks ago. Realistically, I won’t be able to afford the cabin (the trip is for my bf and I who are college students) so I’m hoping we’ll know if any other resorts will be open. I’m glad we have the reservation though, so we have first dibs at park reservations.

I agree that this does seem backward, unless I am missing something. I think resort modifications should be announced before the park reservation system. We are booked for POFQ beginning 7/17. Depending on if/where we get moved (along with a possible price change) we may cancel. I am sure we are not the only ones.

I agree, if people have to pay for upgrades, then a lot may cancel. So then what about the park reservations they made? I would hope we find out before Monday.

If Disney is choosing not open a resort, and guests have a reservation there, I don't see how they can just cancel the reservation without upgrading you. For several years Disney has always offered upgrades if a hotel is sold out or not available. I've never known them to just cancel anyone and tell them not to come. Even when I used to be a travel agent they would always re-accommodate guest and not just cancel. I have a feeling a lot of upgrades will be coming to people it just depends on how soon they open some of these resorts.

If you have also been following the "Cruise and Theme Park Op Updates" board, there is some info out that suggests disappointing news is coming for those with value/moderate reservations, specifically. My best guess would be that this means moves may be offered, but may not be free. But they didn't seem to imply that anything was being outright cancelled. Again -- just from a connected contributor. Not fact.

I will say that is a great argument. If your resort hasn't been announced to open...why is Disney letting everyone with a resort reservation make park reservations on Monday. That makes zero sense.
Now I could see the error message pop up as you log on Monday morning...."It looks like your resort won't be open on your dates. See your options below..."
I hope we don't have to deal with the resort nonsense BEFORE making park reservations. That will very much stress me out!

Yes I've been following it, and I also have seen where people have rumored that cast members are being called back to some of the value and moderate Resorts. No confirmation on any of it though. I think Disney is trying to find a way to accommodate those people. It may not be moving to an upgraded Resort but maybe just moving to another value or moderate if they only open a couple of them. I guess we're all in the same boat and we'll just have to wait and see. Waiting...

I’m really hoping that Disney lets us know about our room situations before Monday. We have a 4 night dvc stay 7/21-7/25 and then ASMo from 7/25-7/29. We aren’t going to pay for an upgrade so we’d have to cancel the last 4 nights. If we’re only going for 4 nights, our park days are going to look different than if we’re going for 8 nights.

I can’t believe they are wanting people to book park reservations when they’ve still not told us where we’re staying and if we’re being charged for moves.

Completely agree! It's all speculation. I was just trying to think about what would be disappointing to value/mod and not deluxe. The first thing that came to mind was cost for changing.

I just received an email from my TA about our upcoming stay at PORR. We are booked for 2 Royal rooms. The email informed us that only DVC resorts will be open and if we don't change our dates, we will be moved to a DVC resort. So I clarified with the TA that all DVC resorts were Deluxe, so we are getting a free upgrade to a deluxe. Bonus!

However, it did go on to say that if we chose to change our dates we would have to pay the difference. Seems like a no brainer to me.

What are your dates if you don't mind me asking?

I just spoke with a CM. I told him I had reservations at two value resorts in addition to a DVC resort, and he told me to go ahead and make my reservations for my entire stay. He was "fairly confident" that everything would work out fine.
Vague, I know, but it was reassurance.

This seems to be the catch. If clients stick with the original dates they had booked they seem to be getting upgraded. If any modification seems to be made then they are having to pay the difference whether it be dates increasing or decreasing. Can I ask what dates you are going?

We check in July 17 and check out July 23.

If you are keeping your 2020 reservation Disney will be re-assigning you to one of the open resorts. Right now, these are Disney Vacation Club Resorts and Fort Wilderness. You will have to take the resort to which you are assigned to. Disney will do this at no extra cost. However, if you make any modifications, they will charge you the difference. We don’t know if they will be opening additional resorts later in the year

Our dates are Sept 5th thru 15th at POP.

If they courtesy upgrade people wouldn't that mean that everyone would get one?..
Wouldn't people be upset if someone staying at All Stars, gets a room at a higher price hotel and you dont get a discount or upgrade?
